The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) conducted its 2026 Service Caravan on September 22, 2026, in Maasim, Sarangani Province, bringing together government agencies and partner institutions to deliver essential services to communities in celebration of National Peace Consciousness Month.

Mindanao State Universityโ€“General Santos joined the initiative through the College of Medicine, University Medical Services Department, and the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM). As part of the caravan, the University provided medical consultations to approximately 600 beneficiaries, bringing much-needed health services directly to members of the community.

The OPAPRU Service Caravan provided an avenue for government agencies and partner institutions to work together in making essential services more accessible to communities while strengthening collaboration in support of peace and development.

Through this initiative, MSU-GenSan highlights the role of doctors and health professionals as partners in peacebuilding. By bringing healthcare closer to communities, the University affirms that promoting health, reaching underserved populations, and serving communities are meaningful pathways toward building lasting peace.

The MSU-General Santos College of Medicine participated in the 3rd In-House Review for Extension on September 17, 2026 at the University Library AVR, as part of REI Week 2026.

Representing the College, Dr. Eva Hormigos presented โ€œNo Child Beyond Reach: Closing the Immunization Gap Through Community Partnership in Barangay Fatima, General Santos City.โ€

Anchored on health equity, the project focused on communities with the lowest immunization coverage to help reach children who may otherwise be missed. The initiative also included capacity-building activities, with COM clinical clerks conducting health education for caregivers and community members on childhood immunization.

The College extends its appreciation to MSU-General Santos for organizing REI Week 2026 and providing a platform to showcase the many research, extension, and innovation efforts being carried out by the different colleges across the University. ๐Ÿ’™

Their research underscores the potential value of the Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI) in assessing the nutritional and immune status of critically ill patients, contributing meaningful insights to critical care research and evidence-based clinical practice.

As the MSU-General Santos College of Medicine continues to develop its clerkship program, the College convened the Clerkship Committee, Department Chairpersons, and Management Committee on September 4, 2026, to review current rotations and chart the direction of clinical training moving forward.

The meeting formed part of the Collegeโ€™s continuing quality assurance process, providing an opportunity to look at the current implementation of clerkship, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that clinical training remains aligned with academic standards and learning outcomes.

Central to the discussion were the Collegeโ€™s affiliations with partner hospitals, which play an important role in providing students with appropriate clinical exposure, supervision, and learning opportunities. The meeting also explored how these partnerships and coordination among departments can be strengthened as the clerkship program continues to grow.

With each step forward, the College continues to build on the foundations of its medical education program. As clerkship training evolves and new opportunities for collaboration take shape, the MSU-General Santos College of Medicine looks forward with excitement to the next chapters of its journey.

The College of Medicine underwent an instructional materials mentoring session with the Center for Instructional Materials Development (CIMD) last August 28, 2026, through its IMentor Program, as part of the Collegeโ€™s continuing efforts to enhance the quality of its teaching and learning resources.

The mentoring session focused on the review and enhancement of the Collegeโ€™s Skills Laboratory Manual, with particular attention to its organization, content, presentation, and overall instructional value. Through the technical guidance and recommendations provided by CIMD, the session offered an opportunity to further refine the manual and ensure that it is relevant, well-structured, learner-centered, and aligned with standards for quality instructional materials.

The activity also strengthened collaboration between COM and CIMD in promoting the continuous development and quality assurance of instructional resources. The College remains committed to improving its academic materials to better support effective teaching, learning, and skills development among medical students.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY | The Mindanao State University-General Santos College of Medicine convened its Innovation Committee on August 26, 2026, at the College of Medicine Office, marking the start of efforts to develop and strengthen innovation initiatives within the College.

Chaired by Dr. Stephen Salvilla, the meeting brought committee members together to exchange ideas, identify priorities, and plan upcoming activities in support of the Universityโ€™s thrusts in Research, Extension, and Innovation.

The College envisions its innovation efforts as a platform that will bring together students, faculty, staff, and the medical community to explore new ideas and develop meaningful solutions to challenges in medical education, healthcare, and community health.

These efforts are also rooted in the Collegeโ€™s vision of developing Doctors for Peace, where advances in education, research, and innovation ultimately contribute to better health and more responsive care for the communities it serves.

The meeting is the first of a series of planning sessions, with more innovation initiatives and opportunities for collaboration expected in the months ahead.
