Barangay Kagawad Hon. Glaiza Mediatrix Hervias-Sunico, Chairman of the Committee on Education, visited Upper Tambler Elementary School II in support of the school ahead of the reopening of classes.
During the visit, Hon. Hervias-Sunico coordinated with School Principal Ma. Arlyn P. Alboroto regarding concerns about the reopening of classes and the needs of the school community. She also checked on the assistance being provided by the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) for various school projects and initiatives.
Meanwhile, the Barangay Peace and Order Committee also extended its support to UTES 2 by helping ensure that the school is ready to welcome learners in a safe and orderly environment. As part of this initiative, the Committee turned over two (2) Barangay Tanods who will serve as additional security personnel for the school during the reopening of classes.
The assigned Barangay Tanods will help monitor the school surroundings, maintain peace and order, and assist the schoolβs existing safety and security personnel, particularly during the arrival and dismissal of learners.
The Barangay continues to work closely with UTES 2 by helping address school concerns, assisting with school projects, and contributing to a safe and smooth return to face-to-face classes for learners and teachers.

β¨UTESians return to classrooms after two months of Distance Learningβ¨
Today, August 13, 2026, learners of Upper Tambler Elementary School II returned to their classrooms for face-to-face learning after nearly two months of distance learning following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that affected the city.
The reopening of classes brought excitement and relief to learners and teachers, who were finally reunited inside the classroom. The return to face-to-face learning marked an important step toward restoring normal school routines and providing learners with a more engaging learning environment.
While many learners were excited to see their classmates and teachers again, the school community also recognized that returning to the classroom meant making safety and well-being a priority.
As part of the school's safety preparations, learners and their advisers conducted a micro earthquake drill that aims to help learners develop the muscle memory needed to respond calmly and correctly during an emergencyβfrom knowing what to do inside the classroom to safely vacating and evacuating the school premises.
Beyond physical safety, teachers also gave attention to the learners' emotional well-being through conducting Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) activities, giving learners an opportunity to express their feelings, process their experiences, and reconnect with one another after the difficult months brought by the earthquake.
During the reopening, police personnel were visibly present together with the SPTA officials. Barangay officials also personally visited the campus to monitor the return of learners and help ensure a safe and orderly reopening.
After months of learning from a distance, the sound of learners once again filled the classroomsβa welcome sign of resilience, hope, and the communityβs determination to move forward.

The City Government of General Santos announces the resumption of face-to-face classes in all public schools effective Thursday, August 13, 2026.

These activities are intended to help learners and personnel cope with the impact of recent events and strengthen their preparedness for possible emergencies.
Schools shall also implement daily earthquake preparedness exercises, including βDuck, Cover, and Hold,β and conduct campus-wide earthquake evacuation drills at least once every quarter. Unsafe or cordoned-off areas shall not be occupied.
School heads and administrators are directed to ensure the safety and well-being of learners and personnel and to immediately suspend the use of any facility that becomes unsafe.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and to rely only on official information and advisories from the City Government, DepEd, and other proper authorities.
