Carrying this call into the new academic year, the College of Accountancy of Gensantos Foundation College (GFI) held its Department ROARientation 2026 yesterday, September 18, at the GFI Recreational and Events Area, bringing together students from the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) and Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting (BSMA) programs.
The orientation aimed to provide students with essential information on academic policies, grading systems, examinations, departmental activities, and other matters concerning their respective programs.
The program formally opened with a warm opening remarks from the AccSo Secretary Jolyle Grace Denaga. Then proceeded to the discussions of the departmentโs grading policies, particularly the cut-off grades by Louie M. Estrebilla, CPA, MBM, BSA Department Coordinator. He explained that major subjects follow a zero-based grading system, while minor subjects use a 30-based grading system.
Moreover, Estrebilla discussed the departmental examination as part of the academic requirements for BSA students. For fourth-year BSA students, he introduced the revalida examination, an oral examination that students must take before graduation.
Meanwhile, Jufel Tamala, CPA, MBM, BSMA Department Coordinator, discussed the grading system implemented in the BSMA program. He explained that while BSMA subjects follow a 30-based grading system, students are still required to meet the prescribed passing grade.
Furthermore, the BSA and BSMA faculty and staff, together with the Accounting Society (AccSo) officers, were also introduced to the students. AccSo President Junelito D. Baron Jr. led a discussion on AccSo, addressing student concerns and providing information relevant to the departmentโs student body.
Adding to the orientation, the event also featured interactive activities, including the โBring Meโ game, which encouraged students to participate and engage throughout the orientation.
The ROARientation concluded with students gaining a clearer understanding of their academic requirements, policies, grading systems, and departmental activities as they continue A.Y. 2026-2027 with a better understanding of the expectations ahead.
