As our recently concluded MathTURO implementation comes to a close, the mission for education and numeracy improvement moves forward—stronger, more refined, and more prepared for what lies ahead.

With profound sadness, the League of Educators Major in Mathematics – Secondary Students extends our heartfelt condolences on the passing of 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐑𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐥 𝐂. 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐚, 𝐌𝐈𝐌, an esteemed faculty member of the Department of Mathematics.

His dedication to teaching, passion for mathematics, and genuine commitment to shaping future educators have left a lasting impact on our academic community. He will be remembered not only for his excellence as an educator but also for the inspiration and guidance he generously shared with his students.

We are honored to learn from 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗲, 𝗟𝗣𝗧, a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Southeastern Philippines – Davao and 3rd Place passer of the September 2021 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers. With his experience as a former instructor at Tagum Doctors College and a lecturer at Falculan Twins Review Center, his expertise continues to guide and inspire aspiring educators toward excellence.

𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗢 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝟳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗦 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵

MathTURO strengthened Grade 7 learners’ numeracy skills through a weeks-long outreach program at Calumpang High School, engaging third-year BSEd Mathematics majors and NSTP volunteers under the League of Educators Major in Mathematics - Secondary Students (LEMMA-S²), with support from Mindanao State University–General Santos and Calumpang High School administration headed by Dr. Norman M. Norberte, PhD.

Program implementation delivered structured and interactive mathematics sessions aimed at improving conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and learner engagement through guided and collaborative activities.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Program activities began with a launching and orientation that outlined objectives, expectations, and session flow, allowing Grade 7 learners to adjust and engage early.

Facilitators then reinforced participation and cooperation, helping learners overcome initial hesitation and adapt to the instructional setup throughout the program.

𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀
Sessions focused on data literacy, where learners collected, organized, represented, and interpreted data using frequency tables and graphs. Hands-on tasks enabled immediate application and improved confidence.

As sessions progressed, learners tackled integers, order of operations, and basic algebra through step-by-step instruction and real-time feedback. They analyzed errors, refined solutions, and collaborated to strengthen understanding.

𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀
Interactive strategies such as group challenges and activity-based tasks boosted engagement and sustained active participation while reinforcing mathematical concepts.

Continuous facilitation provided immediate support, enabling learners to correct mistakes and improve accuracy in solving problems.

MathTURO demonstrated the effectiveness of structured academic outreach in strengthening numeracy skills and fostering collaboration between facilitators and learners. It likewise highlighted how consistent guidance and interactive instruction improved both performance and engagement in mathematics.

LEMMA-S² and the BSED Mathematics program proudly celebrate the publication of a new research article in Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal. This achievement reflects the growing research culture and academic excellence within our community.
