Community Leaders Strengthen SGIES Special Program in Journalism Through Generous Support

GENERAL MARIANO ALVAREZ, CAVITE — The Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) of San Gabriel I Elementary School (SGIES) continues to receive strong support from the community as local leaders extend generous assistance to improve the learning environment of young campus journalists.

Leading the initiative, Vice Mayor Percival “Percy” Cabuhat undertook the repair and construction of the entire ceiling of the Grade 4 SPJ room, providing learners with a safer and more conducive space for learning and journalism activities.

Adding to the classroom improvement efforts, Konsehal Ona Virata donated 10 sheets of Hardiflex, which will be used to further improve and reinforce other SPJ classrooms.

Meanwhile, Konsehal Narita Belong and Konsehal Atty. Paycana donated three air-conditioning units for the three SPJ classrooms serving Grades 4, 5, and 6.

The generous support is a significant contribution to the continued implementation of the Special Program in Journalism, which aims to develop the skills of young learners in news writing, sports writing, feature writing, editorial writing, photojournalism, science and technology writing, and other fields of campus journalism.

Under the leadership of School Principal Eroliza E. Rogacion, SGIES continues to strengthen the SPJ program and provide its learners with a learning environment that supports both academic growth and journalistic development.

Principal Rogacion expressed her appreciation for the generosity and commitment of the local leaders, emphasizing the importance of partnerships between the school and the community in providing better opportunities for learners.

Through the continued collaboration of the school, local government, parents, and community stakeholders, SGIES remains committed to nurturing responsible, skilled, and empowered young campus journalists through the Special Program in Journalism.

SGIES SPJ JOURNALISTS ADVANCE TO DSPC PHASE 2

Eight campus journalists from San Gabriel I Elementary School (SGIES) secured spots in Phase 2 of the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), bringing pride to the school’s Special Program in Journalism (SPJ).

The qualifiers emerged among the Top 20 in their respective individual writing and journalism categories, following the conduct of the first phase of the Division Schools Press Conference.

In the Filipino category, Kierztin Ceilo Abrigo qualified in Column Writing, Althea Jamil Lita in Editorial Cartooning, Christian Legarda in Editorial Writing, Aaron James Magada in Science and Technology Writing, Rod Isaac Abella in Sports Writing, and Reigh Devonne Dela Cruz in News Writing.

Meanwhile, Sophia Laurien Niñal qualified in Science and Technology Writing, while Jaze Haniel S. Jimenez advanced in Sports Writing under the English category.

The young journalists were guided by their respective coaches: Alona De Guzman for Column Writing and Editorial Writing, Mike M. Lopez for Editorial Cartooning, Liza Cardenas for Science and Technology Writing, Jhasom Cardenas for Sports Writing, and Leah Teves for News Writing.

The achievement reflects the continuous efforts of SGIES in strengthening campus journalism through its Special Program in Journalism, which provides learners with opportunities to develop their writing, critical thinking, communication, and journalistic skills.

The school also recognized the unwavering support and encouragement of School Principal Eroliza E. Rogacion, whose leadership continues to strengthen the SPJ and its various journalism initiatives.

With eight campus journalists moving forward to Phase 2, SGIES expressed pride in the achievements of its young writers and looks forward to their continued journey in the Division Schools Press Conference.

The qualifiers will continue their preparation as they represent San Gabriel I Elementary School in the next phase of the competition.

SPJ Learners Join District Training in Campus Journalism

Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) learners intensified their preparation for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference as they participated in the District Training Workshop in Campus Journalism held at San Gabriel I Elementary School, San Gabriel II Elementary School, and Area J Elementary School.

The training gathered campus journalists from different schools for specialized sessions covering both individual and group category.

The workshops featured discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on activities facilitated by experienced trainers. Participants were given opportunities to apply the principles of journalism through actual writing, editing, photography, scriptwriting, broadcasting, cartooning, and publication-layout exercises.

Held across the three training venues, the district activity provided SPJ learners with a wider learning environment and opportunities to strengthen their preparation for competitive campus journalism.

Beyond technical preparation, the training emphasized accuracy, responsibility, teamwork, and journalistic integrity—qualities expected of young campus journalists as they represent their schools in the upcoming competition.

With the knowledge and experience gained from the workshop, the SPJ learners continue to hone their craft and prepare to compete in the Division Schools Press Conference.

Teodoro Sharpens Young Journalists’ Radio Scriptwriting, Broadcasting Skills

Aspiring campus broadcasters strengthened their skills in writing and delivering radio news as Mona E. Teodoro led a training workshop on radio scriptwriting and broadcasting, equipping participants with techniques essential for campus journalism competitions.

The workshop focused on the fundamentals of writing effective radio news scripts and delivering news with clarity, accuracy, brevity, and confidence.

Teodoro discussed the proper format and structure of radio scripts, emphasizing the importance of presenting timely and factual information in a manner easily understood by listeners.

Participants also learned the different roles and responsibilities of members of a radio broadcasting team, highlighting the importance of coordination and teamwork in producing an organized and effective news presentation.

Through hands-on activities, the campus journalists were given opportunities to write radio scripts and practice delivering news reports. The exercises allowed them to apply the principles and techniques discussed during the training.

The resource speaker also shared strategies on proper voice projection, pronunciation, pacing, and effective news delivery, helping participants develop confidence when speaking before an audience.

The training workshop provided young campus journalists with practical knowledge and skills needed to improve their performance in radio scriptwriting and broadcasting and prepare for upcoming journalism activities and competitions.
