SPJ Parents Hold “Zumba for a Cause” to Support Young Journalists

SAN GABRIEL I ELEMENTARY SCHOOL—Parents of learners under the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) gathered for “Zumba for a Cause,” an event that promoted health, wellness, and community collaboration while raising funds to support the school’s journalism program.

The activity brought together parents, teachers, school personnel, and community members who enthusiastically participated in the fitness event. Proceeds from the activity will be used to support journalism training, campus press activities, competitions, and other learning opportunities for SPJ learners.

The event was spearheaded by the SPJ Parent-Teacher Association and was successfully organized by Minia Dimakiling, one of the active SPJ parents, who also served as the event’s host. Through her leadership and dedication, the activity became a meaningful gathering that strengthened the partnership between parents and the school in advancing quality journalism education.

The event also received generous support from Vice Mayor Percival Cabuhat, Counsilor Angela Paycana, and Maricel Torres, whose sponsorship contributed significantly to the success of the program.

School officials expressed their appreciation to the sponsors, organizers, parents, and participants for their unwavering support. Student journalists strengthened their analytical and opinion-writing skills during a training workshop on Editorial and Column Writing conducted by Ma’am Alona B. De Guzman as part of the school’s continuing journalism development program.

The workshop introduced participants to the distinct features of editorial and column writing, emphasizing the importance of expressing informed opinions supported by facts, sound reasoning, and credible evidence. Learners were guided on how to identify relevant issues, formulate strong arguments, and present their ideas with clarity, balance, and conviction.
