The common sources of our drinking water are
water from the tap and refilling station. Water from the tap come from water source like
Maynilad or Manila Water.From the water source,
water passes through old pipes which can cause
water contamination. Water source also use chlorination process to kill
bacteria in water. However, more than the
allowable chlorine kevel in drinking water(up to
4 parts per million) poses health risk such as
increase risk of cancer. Water from refilling station poses some health
concerns.Like, does the water eefilling station
comply with monthly laboratory tests? And, do
the water refilling station staff observe proper
hygiene? Most types of plastic bottles are to reuse atleast
a few times if properly washed with hot soapy
water. Repeated re-use of plastix bottles
increases the change that chemicals will leak
out of the tiny cracks and crevices the develop
in the containers over time. Studies indicate
that the containers may leach DEHP(Di-2-
ethylhexyl phthalate), another probable human
carcinogen. Over repeated use, the container become slimy
and water stored beyond 48 hours become
acidic.
