ISLA’s preschool learners explored color, pattern, and transformation through tie-dye—a Reggio Emilia–inspired experience where curiosity, experimentation, and creativity guided the learning.

Through mixing colors and observing how they spread and change, children discovered science and art through hands-on inquiry.

Mud, circles, pizza—and the sound of Pp!

Through inquiry and exploration, our young learners transformed mud into their own pretend “dough,” rolling and shaping it while discovering that it formed a circle. They then flattened their circles into “pizzas,” adding wood shavings as imaginative toppings before connecting their creation to language by sounding out Pp for pizza.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, this experience allowed learning to emerge naturally from the children’s curiosity and interaction with open-ended, natural materials. Through hands-on exploration, one playful experience became an opportunity to discover shape, texture, creativity, early literacy, and symbolic thinking.

At ISLA, children learn not only by being told—but by touching, wondering, experimenting, creating, and making connections of their own.

Discovering RED through Nature and Science

Our Baby and Toddler learners explored the vibrant red santan flowers floating in water—an invitation to discover color, texture, movement, and the properties of water through their senses.

As they touched, scooped, stirred, and watched the flowers float and move, the children began forming early understandings in science: What floats? What moves? What happens when we touch the water? How does the color red appear in nature?

Through this simple Reggio Emilia-inspired provocation, color exploration becomes scientific discovery, encouraging curiosity, observation, sensory awareness, and early inquiry.

Nature becomes the classroom. Curiosity becomes the beginning of science.

MARAJAW!

ISLA’s Siargao Cultural Immersion is in full swing on our second week of classes!

From learning about Siargao’s municipalities and the history of Cabuntug (old General Luna), to using Siargaonon words and greetings, our learners are discovering the stories, language, people, and traditions that make the island they call home unique.

Word of the Week: MARAJAW!

For both local children and those whose families have made Siargao their new home, these experiences nurture identity, belonging, cultural appreciation, and respect for the community they are growing up in.

Because learning about the world can begin by knowing, appreciating, and taking pride in where we are.
