Cortez, Gerwin Lapuz graduated from Philippine Normal University-Manila with a degree in Secondary Education with a Filipino Major and an Undergraduate Certificate in Reading Education (The National Center for Teacher Education). Gonzales Scholarship. He continued his academic studies at the Baliuag University's School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education, where he earned a Master of Arts
in Education with a Filipino concentration, in order to broaden and enhance his understanding of his subject. He is currently enrolled in the same university to pursue a doctorate in education with a focus in the same area. Since June 2014, Mr. Cortez has been a high school public teacher III on a permanent basis at San Roque National High School. He instructs Chinese Mandarin in grade 7 and Filipino in grades 7, 8, 9 and 10. He was sent to Angeles University Foundation, Pampanga as a scholar in the Proficiency Program in Chinese Mandarin, where he passed the HSK1 and HSK2 exams in 2020 and 2021, respectively, to broaden his understanding of several languages. He also participated in PNU's Basic Training Course in Nihonggo Level 1 in 2012. He pursued his Certificate in Religious Education at The Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas with diligence and love. He was invited to be a resource speaker in the Schools Division of San Jose City in Nueva Ecija as well as in the Schools Division of Gapan City due to his expertise and talents, and he currently serves as a judge in a contest involving Filipino in the Schools Division of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan and San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. He was most recently recognized as the 2019 Natatanging Guro sa Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao, the 2018 Most Outstanding Teacher of San Roque National High School, the 2018 Outstanding Filipino Teacher, and the 2016β2017 Best Filipino Reading Teacher (First Place in Secondary Level in the entire Division of Gapan City). Because he enjoys writing, he contributed to the creation, validation, and conformance of the Region III Self-Learning Kit as well as the Filipino Module for Junior High School students, which served as the foundation for the 2020 modular distance learning modality in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he has served as co-school paper adviser of The Roquenians, the official magazine of SRNHS, since 2021. He coaches the volleyball team during the Dual Intramural Meet from 2016 to 2018 as part of the school's extracurricular physical activities. Cortez has leadership experience. He served as the Public Information Officer for Pansangay na Samahan ng mga Guro sa Filipino (PASAGUFIL) from 2015 to 2017 in the Division of Gapan City and as a member of Pambansang Samahan sa Lingguwistika, at Literatura sa Filipino (PSLLF). Additionally, he completed the 2013 Rover Vigil under the Cabanatuan Council and the 2015 Basic Training Course under the Nueva Ecija Council. In accordance with that, he participated in the 2017 National Jamborette in Maasin City, Southern Leyte, and served from 2015 to 2016 as the Boy Scout Leader for neighborhood backyard camping.
