ISU Specials | This Ninoy Aquino Day, Isabela State University (ISU) remembers the life of Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino Jr. as a reminder that democracy depends on citizens who are willing to question, participate, and stand for principles larger than themselves.
In today’s Philippines, this responsibility remains relevant. The pursuit of democracy calls for institutions that practice transparency, public officials who remain accountable for their decisions, and citizens who engage critically with the issues that shape their communities. It also calls for the protection of truth, the responsible exercise of dissent, and the willingness to participate in public life beyond moments of political crisis.
As an institution of higher education, ISU recognizes that its responsibility extends beyond classrooms and laboratories. An educated citizenry is essential to a functioning democracy. Through teaching, research, extension, and public engagement, the University has a role in developing citizens who can examine information critically, understand their rights and responsibilities, participate constructively in civic life, and demand integrity from institutions entrusted with public interest.
Today, ISU honors his memory by continuing its commitment to education that strengthens civic consciousness, scholarship that seeks truth, and institutional practice that values accountability and transparency.
