The Power of Spelling in Early Reading

In every classroom, there is magic in the moment a child reads a word for the first time. Behind that magic is a skill that quietly strengthens young readers every day --- spelling.

Why is spelling important?

1. Spelling helps children understand how words work. When learners practice spelling, they see the pattern of letters and sounds. This makes it easier for them to recognize the same words when reading.

Spelling reinforces phonics. As children spell words, they learn which sounds match which letters. This strengthens their decoding skills in reading.
