: The Silliman University team, Merge Conflict of the College of Computer Studies (CCS), secured a Top 5 finish at the Philippine Startup Challenge (PSC) X – Central Visayas Regional Pitching Competition, held on November 22, 2025, at Mezzo Hotel, Cebu City.

Composed of John Stanley Altonaga (BSCS-IV), Gianne Guenter Gaudan (BSIT-IV), and Jon Patric Garganian (BSIT-IV), with Asst. Prof. Joy Dy as mentor, Merge Conflict was among the Top 25 finalists selected from 158 entries submitted across Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental.

The team presented bant.AI, an AI-powered digital safety assistant designed to analyze screenshots and online interactions to detect harmful content and emotional patterns that may affect a child’s well-being.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1031, October 17 has been declared a special (non-working) day in Negros Oriental.

: Following Executive Order (EO) No. 26 issued by Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria, classes at all levels and all SU operations are suspended today, October 10. Meanwhile, the Facilities Management and Administrative Services team will conduct thorough inspection of buildings across campus.

: Gov. Manuel Sagarbarria has issued Executive Order No. 22, Series of 2025, suspending all classes at all levels in Negros Oriental due to the enhanced southwest monsoon and the movement of Typhoon Opong, which are bringing heavy rains over the province.

In compliance, all in-person classes and office operations at Silliman University are suspended beginning tomorrow, September 26, 2025, until the EO is lifted.

Asynchronous learning will continue through the MySOUL Learning Management System or through assigned homework and activities.

Heads of essential services are enjoined to guarantee the steady delivery of vital services without disruption.

The University emphasizes that the safety and well-being of learners, teachers, and personnel remain the top priority during this period of inclement weather.

: A team from Silliman University emerged as the champion of “Can You HackIT: The IBPAP Challenge,” a regional hackathon organized by the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), held on July 15-16, 2025, at the Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) Gym.

The Silliman team, Merge Conflict, bested 27 other teams from 13 academic institutions in Region 7 with their AI-powered solution designed to address pressing social challenges. Composed of senior Computer Science and Information Technology students John Stanley T. Altonaga, Karl Joseph M. Gaitera, Jon Patric A. Garganian, Gianne Guenter S. Gaudan, and Jhana P. Trinidad, the team also took home the Best Use of AI Award.
