3rd Year Political Science students participated in a meaningful educational visit to Dumaguete Cathedral Credit Cooperative, one of the largest cooperatives in the province, with discussions centered on governance, policy, and community-centered development through the Membership and Community Development Department.
The visit provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom theories on policy formulation, implementation, monitoring, and assessment with actual institutional practices. Discussions emphasized that effective policies are not solely measured by their existence, but by the efficiency, integrity, commitment, and dedication behind their implementation. โจ
Students were able to appreciate how responsive governance requires consistency, accountability, and genuine public service in order to create programs that are sustainable rather than temporary or merely band-aid solutions.
The exchange also tackled important realities in policy making and program development, particularly the challenges posed by personal interests, biases, and conflicts in perspective that may affect decision-making and implementation. Through the dialogue, students gained valuable insights on the importance of balancing institutional objectives with the welfare of the community, ensuring that policies remain people-centered, ethical, and development-oriented. ๐
Beyond cooperative services and member relations, the discussion highlighted how cooperatives, despite being private institutions, remain vested with public interest through programs that contribute to community empowerment and support the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ๐๐ฑ
Special thanks and appreciation to Miss Marie Keth A. Cabajon and Sir Albert T. Trumata for warmly accommodating the students, sharing their expertise, and facilitating an insightful and engaging discussion on governance, service delivery, and sustainable community development. ๐
Indeed, an enriching experience that strengthened the studentsโ understanding that public service, effective governance, and meaningful policy implementation begin with competence, integrity, and a genuine commitment to people and community. ๐ค

To every worker, in every space: your labor matters, your rights matter, your dignity matters.
May we continue to see, value, and stand with those who build our society every day.

: On April 30, 1937, Filipino women won the right of suffrage through a herstoric national plebiscite, with 447,725 (90%) voting โYes,โ surpassing the required 300,000 votes.
To honor this milestone and sustain its democratic spirit, a day was set aside for Filipino women to renew their advocacy and commitment to clean, honest, and free elections and to pursue these efforts with greater zeal. In 1984, Proclamation No. 2346 declared April 30 of every year as Woman Suffrage Day to encourage continued advocacy for electoral integrity.
As we mark the 89th anniversary of this milestone, we are reminded that while women have gained the right to vote, the work toward true gender equality continuesโespecially in ensuring more women are empowered and represented in decision-making spaces. There can be no full democracy if half of the population remains underrepresented.
To all Filipino voters, especially women: our foremothers fought for and won this rightโlet us continue to use it responsibly. Let us choose leaders who are guided by competence, integrity, and a strong commitment to gender equality and womenโs empowerment.
Let us exercise this right freely, wisely, and meaningfully.
