The Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services was invited by the Junior Social Work students of Silliman University as part of their program implementation for the subject Community Education and Training. The participants of the activity were 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) members from Barangay Candau-ay, Dumaguete City making the session impactful in supporting financially vulnerable households through capacity-building and skills development.

Representing the Office, Ms. Nica D. Diaz, Administrative Officer of the FU Office of Research & Extension Services served as the resource speaker on Basic Business Planning and Financial Management, equipping participants with essential knowledge and practical skills for livelihood development. She was joined by Ms. Heini A. Borromeo, RSW, Program Manager and Ms. Jerrydith B. Alpuerto, Research Associate who served as co-facilitators during the activity, ensuring an engaging and participatory learning experience.

This initiative aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 1: No Poverty โ€“ by promoting income-generating skills and financial literacy to help individuals improve their economic conditions.
SDG 4: Quality Education โ€“ through the provision of inclusive and practical learning opportunities within the community.

The Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services successfully conducted its monthly extension activities in partnership with the DSWD Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in the Municipality of Valencia, covering the barangays of East Balabag, Palinpinon, Balugo, and Liptong.

The initiative was led by Mrs. Lilia P. Angub, FU Extension Coordinator, in collaboration with the FU College of Hospitality Management and FU College of Arts and Sciences. The activity aimed to strengthen community capacities, promote sustainable practices, and support the holistic development of participating beneficiaries.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 1: No Poverty โ€“ by supporting 4Ps beneficiaries through capacity-building activities that help improve their quality of life.
SDG 4: Quality Education โ€“ by providing learning opportunities and practical knowledge to empower individuals and families.

Had a meaningful and enriching engagement today as the Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services facilitated the Leadership Training for 4Ps beneficiaries in Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City through the initiative of Mx. James Ryan Cabatingan and buddies. The activity served as a platform to strengthen the capacities of parents and community members, emphasizing their vital role as leaders within their families and as active partners in community development.

Representing the office were Ms. Heini A. Borromeo, RSW, Community Extension Program Manager who served as the resource speaker and led an insightful discussion on Parental Leadership. She was joined by Ms. Nica D. Diaz, Admin Officer, and Ms. Jerrydith B. Alpuerto, Research Associate, who provided support as facilitators, ensuring an engaging and participatory learning environment throughout the activity.

The activity encouraged reflection, sharing of experiences, and collaboration among participants, reinforcing the idea that leadership begins at home and extends outward into the community. It created a safe and open space where participants were able to express their insights, learn from one another, and recognize their shared responsibility in shaping a better future for their children.

The Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services took part in the techno-demonstration at Kawayan Collective โ€“ Tanjay Branch on March 17, 2026, highlighting the sustainable and innovative use of bamboo.

Led by Dr. Jenny Tamayo of the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), the activity showcased hands-on learning on creating soap using bamboo-derived activated carbon, a soothing salve from bamboo leaves, and bamboo paper demonstrating the versatility of bamboo as an eco-friendly resource.

Representing the office was Ms. Heini A. Borromeo, reinforcing the universityโ€™s commitment to community engagement and sustainable development.

Today, the Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services (FU ORES) was invited to conduct a Mental Health Awareness Talk for the 4Ps Members of Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City, through the initiative of Ms. Danica Baldoza, a 3rd year Social Work student from the Silliman University Social Work Department.

Representing the office was Ms. Heini A. Borromeo, RSW, Program Manager for Community Extension, who served as the resource speaker and shared valuable insights on understanding mental health and the importance of nurturing emotional well-being within families and communities. Assisting in facilitating the activity were Ms. Jerrydith B. Alpuerto, Research Associate, and Ms. Nica D. Diaz, Administrative Officer, who helped guide the participants through a meaningful reflection activity.

This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which promotes mental health awareness and overall well-being for all; and
SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing community-based learning opportunities that empower families with knowledge and understanding.

Last March 5, 2026, the Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services (FU ORES), represented by Ms. Heini A. Borromeo, RSW, Program Manager for Community Extension, was invited by Barangay II, Bais City to take part in their Womenโ€™s Month Celebration.

During the activity, Ms. Borromeo delivered an informative discussion on Republic Act 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, emphasizing its importance in protecting individuals, especially women, from gender-based sexual harassment. Participants were encouraged to deepen their understanding of the law, speak up against harassment, and take an active role in fostering safe, inclusive, and respectful spaces within their homes and communities.

This initiative also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 5: Gender Equality, which promotes the empowerment and protection of women and girls in our communities; and
- SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which highlights the importance of building safe, just, and inclusive societies.

Through meaningful partnerships with local communities, the Foundation University Office of Research & Extension Services continues to strengthen its commitment to community empowerment, gender sensitivity, and social responsibility, while supporting efforts that uphold the rights, dignity, and safety of every individual.
