Modern-day heroes. For a variety of reasons, this is how we refer to our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW). They have made significant contributions to our economy by sending large amounts of money home. Away from their loved ones; working hard abroad to make a better living; loneliness and homesickness; dealing with cultural differences; these are just some of the sacrifices that our fellow citizens must make. Leaving their homeland in exchange for a chance to earn money and provide for their families' basic needs. They toil in foreign lands every day, hoping for a better future. Everyone has their own inspiring story. Their anguish, whether physical or emotional, is truly priceless.

If you have a loved one working overseas, be proud of them and at the same time appreciate them. These unsung heroes deserve to be recognized by this generation as well, because they see their hard work as more than an obligation, but also as an act of love and kindness.

We may not know exactly what we are doing or where we are going most of the time, but one thing that is forever certain is that our lives matter. It matters regardless of anything, and it is our inherent right to embrace, love, and protect it with the best that we can. We embrace it by accepting its shortcomings. Respecting everyone helps us to enjoy and love it. By demanding what is right, we defend it. We also understand that we deserve better.

Everyone, the time has come to resist and live a life of pride and dignity. It is now time to be who we are meant to be, and that is to be free.
