Rizal Elementary School Empowers Teachers Through Transformative In-Service Training: From Knowing to Reasoning
Brgy. Rizal, Dolores, Eastern Samar - Rizal Elementary School successfully conducted its School-Based In-Service Training (SBIT) for Term 1 of S.Y. 2026–2027, focusing on the theme “Transforming Knowledge into Critical Thinking, Creativity, and Meaningful Learning.” The training, held on September 11-12, 2026 at the Grade 2 Aquino Classroom, was spearheaded by Dr. Albert Pagadora, the school head, who served as the learning facilitator.
The program, titled “From Knowing to Reasoning: Strengthening Teachers’ Pedagogical Capacity for Higher-Order Thinking Through SOLO Taxonomy,” aimed to equip teachers with strategies to move beyond rote learning and foster deeper reasoning among learners.
In his keynote message, Dr. Pagadora emphasized the transformative role of teachers in shaping learners’ minds: “As teachers, our responsibility is not merely to fill learners’ minds with information. Our greater responsibility is to help them make sense of information, connect ideas, ask meaningful questions, solve problems, make reasoned decisions, and create solutions.”
He further explained that the shift “from knowing to reasoning” requires teachers to guide learners toward asking powerful questions such as “How do you know? Why do you think so? What evidence supports your answer? What would happen if the situation changed? And how can you use what you learned in another situation?”
Through the integration of Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and the SOLO Taxonomy, the training highlighted intentional lesson design that enables learners to progress from identifying ideas, to connecting them, to reasoning with evidence, and ultimately to applying knowledge creatively and meaningfully.
Dr. Pagadora concluded with a vision for the school’s teaching mission: “Our goal is not simply learners who can remember. Our goal is learners who can understand, reason, create, and use knowledge responsibly. That is the essence of our journey, from knowing to reasoning.”
The two-day SBIT served as a milestone in Rizal Elementary School’s continuing commitment to quality education, empowering teachers to nurture learners who are not only knowledgeable but also critical thinkers and creative problem-solvers.
