Buhay sa kasalukuyan ang diwang makabayan na inukit ng kasaysayan. โœจ

In celebration of the remarkable contributions of women both locally and globally, Jose Rizal Memorial State University-Dipolog successfully culminated the National Women's Month with free pampering activities for faculty and staff at the campus gymnasium on March 28, 2025.

The event, themed "๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™—๐™–๐™š ๐™จ๐™– ๐™‡๐™–๐™๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™Ž๐™š๐™ ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ง, ๐˜ผ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ๐™–๐™ฉ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐˜ฝ๐™ช๐™ ๐™–๐™จ ๐™จ๐™– ๐˜ฝ๐™–๐™œ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™œ ๐™‹๐™ž๐™ก๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™–๐™จ," was spearheaded by the Office of Gender and Development, under the leadership of Prof. Glenfiddich J. Daymiel.

The program was honored by the presence of the University President, Dr. Maria Rio Abdon Naguit, Campus Director Dr. Marvin Recapente, and guest speaker Atty. Geralyn T. Romarate, the Acting Register of Deeds, as well as directors, deans, associate deans, faculty, staff, and students.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Recapente emphasized, "Today, this gymnasium is not just a venue; it embodies our commitment to camaraderie and empowerment. As we wrap up this significant celebration, we are not merely concluding an eventโ€”we are reaffirming our ongoing dedication to uplifting, empowering, and celebrating the contributions of women across all sectors."

On the other hand, Dr. Naguit added that we must reflect on our shared responsibility to end violence against women and children (VAWC). This issue affects not only women but also men.

"Our advocacy goes beyond policies and awarenessโ€”it involves changing mindsets, shifting paradigms, and ensuring that every woman, child, and even men who are victims of abuse feel valued and heard," the President said.

In her side, Atty. Romarate highlighted the importance of understanding Republic Act 9262, also known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (Anti-VAWC Act). She discussed the legal protections the law offers for victims of domestic violence, the penalties for offenders, and the crucial role of the community in supporting survivors.

The guest speaker encouraged attendees to actively raise awareness, report abuse, and advocate for the rights and welfare of women and children.

The afternoon was dedicated to pampering and self-care activities, including manicures, pedicures, hair braiding, eyebrow shaping, hair and makeup sessions, and both ladies' and barber cuts, providing participants with moments of relaxation.

"Iโ€™m so thankful for this opportunity, especially for the women faculty and staff, to enjoy this pampering session," said Miss Eloisa Bejerano, a faculty member from the College of Teacher Education.

Mr. Rey Mark Jumuad, a faculty member from the College of Information Technology, also expressed his appreciation, saying, "Iโ€™m delighted because, even in a small way, we could enjoy this activity for free."

In addition to beauty and wellness services, the event featured discounted Ukay-Ukay items, a health awareness booth, and a fun videoke session, ensuring a well-rounded and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Ukay-Ukay vendor Lovely Wen Jamarolin shared her gratitude, saying, "Iโ€™m thankful because this event helps support our small business."

A public information desk was set up, where faculty and staff could access free consultations from various government agencies and private sectors. Representatives from the Department of Education, Philippine National Police, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc., Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Health, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources, as well as legal experts and guidance counselors, were available to provide valuable assistance and support.

In closing, GAD Unit Head Prof. Glenfiddich J. Daymiel remarked, "JRMSU has just begun its journey to fulfill the mandates of gender and development. With your support, and the administration's commitment, Iโ€™m confident we will achieve our goal of gender equality and build a gender-responsive society."

The fruitful culmination of National Women's Month was a powerful testament to the university's dedication to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
