In a powerful convergence of vision and vocation, Jose Rizal Memorial State University, in collaboration with the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE RIX), successfully gathered aspiring educators from across the provinceโincluding the dedicated Pre-Service Teachers of St. Vincentโs College Incorporatedโfor the Zamboanga del Norte Grand Pre-Service Teachersโ Congress on January 7, 2025, at the Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Sports Center in Dipolog City. The event served as a transformative platform for College of Teacher Education students from different fields of specialization, uniting them in a shared commitment to excellence in teaching.
The congress was designed to bridge theory and practice, equipping pre-service teachers with the knowledge, values, and readiness essential for navigating the realities of todayโs classrooms. It opened with an enlightening session by Judge Chad Martin Paler, who delved into โEthical Footprints: Building Safe, Professional, and Compassionate Learning Environments.โ Through his discussion of the The Safe Spaces Act or Anti-Bastos Law (RA 11313), he emphasized the crucial role of ethics, respect, and legal awareness in fostering safe and dignified learning spaces.
As the afternoon unfolded, Rosary Naquila, an Occupational Therapist, invited participants to look deeper through her talk, โSeeing Beyond the Surface: Early Signs of Neurodivergence and Inclusive Teacher Responses.โ Her discussion highlighted the importance of inclusive education, equipping future teachers with empathy-driven strategies to support learners with special needs and celebrate diversity within the classroom.
The momentum continued with Dr. Zhyrine P. Mayormita, ASDS, of the Zamboanga del Norte Division, who navigated participants through โNavigating the Classroom Frontier: Key DepEd Updates, MATATAG Modifications, and Field Preparedness for Pre-Service Teachers.โ Her insights grounded the aspirants in current educational reforms, preparing them to step confidently into the field with awareness and adaptability.
Culminating the day was an inspiring talk by Dr. Jay S. Montealco, SDS, of the Dapitan City Division, titled โBecoming the Teacher Within: Professional Identity, Readiness, and the Realities of the Teaching World.โ His message resonated deeply, urging future educators to embrace both the challenges and calling of the profession with resilience, integrity, and purpose.
As the congress concluded around 5:00 PM, it left behind more than certificates and notesโit ignited renewed passion, strengthened professional identity, and reaffirmed the noble profession of teaching. The day became even more engaging with raffle draws featuring prizes, question and answer activities, and intermission numbers performed by talented future educators. Overall, the event stood as a testament that when institutions, educators, and future teachers come together, the classroom of tomorrow is shaped with wisdom, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
