DepEd Dipolog focuses on health across gender, laws against harassment
By: Jocel Mhae L. Enderez

Dipolog City, Philippines – The Department of Education (DepEd) Dipolog City Division joins the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) and the whole nation in the annual observance of the National Women’s Month celebration with the theme, “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” and official hashtag . The Division conducted a culmination program last March 31, 2023 at Olingan Elementary School’s covered court, which was participated by the non-teaching personnel.

The activity was spearheaded by Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person, EPS Monina R. Antiquina, with the support of assistant superintendent, Lourma I. Poculan, and medical officer, Dr. Thea Kristelle Alonzo-Gahisan.

In her inspirational message, Poculan said, “Proverbs chapter 12 verse 4 says, ‘An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who shames him is as rottenness in his bones,’ so it is true that in man’s success there is a woman behind, and if we are successful as women, it is because our husbands support us. Let’s hope to become more of a ‘superwoman’ by doing what God’s purpose for us, and so we can be blessed beyond measure.”

As the activity continued to unfold throughout the day, discussions that transpired were heavily focused on the central topics of health across gender and laws against sexual harassment. Scientific presentations were delivered by medical practitioners from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Hospital. Obstetrics and gynecologists Dr. Abigail B. Bagarinao and Dr. Azalea Kirsti E. Valdez shared their expertise regarding woman’s anatomy and physiology. Another physician, Dr. Ana Claudine R. Zamora, also discussed about the common reproductive health concerns for women. Afterwards, Dr. Christine A. Alegarbes, gave a lecture about the climacteric, otherwise known as menopause. The Republic Act No. 11313, which pertains to the Safe Space Act or the Bawal Bastos Law, was then reiterated by Rambelle C. Flores, Senior Education Program Specialist of Human Resource Training and Development Section.

As part of the culmination program, DepEd Music Society Dipolog City Chapter, serenaded the Juans and Juanas. All personnel also participated in the Larong Pinoy team building activities, including the giving of advocacy tribute—a pasalamat—for division employees.
