Today, we celebrate not only our nation's independence but also our collective duty to protect, uphold, and strengthen the ideals our heroes fought for.
As heirs of freedom, the greatest tribute to our heroes is to build a nation worthy of their courage, defined by dignity, unity, integrity, excellence, inclusivity, and shared prosperity. A free nation thrives when its people place patriotism above self-interest, and when every generation answers the call to lead, uplift others, and help shape a progressive future.
May this commemoration inspire us to honor our heritage through responsible citizenship, selfless service, and an unwavering commitment to the common good. As an academic community, let us transform knowledge into impact, opportunity into action, and freedom into meaningful contributions toward nation-building, stewardship, and sustainable progress.

One hundred twenty-eight years of freedom, and still standing strong. Long ago, our forebears dared to dream of a nation that belongs to its people. A nation that is free, sovereign, and full of promises. They laid down their comfort, their safety, and their lives so that generations after them could wake up every morning as citizens of a free land.
Their courage lives on in every Filipino who rises each day with hope, in every family that strives for a better tomorrow, in every teacher, farmer, worker, and soldier who serves this nation with quiet devotion, and in every overseas Filipino who carries the Philippines in their heart, no matter how far from home they may be.
Freedom is not just something we celebrate once a year. It is something we protect, nurture, and pass on. On this 127th Independence Day, we pay tribute to the heroes whose sacrifice gave birth to a free nation. Let us honor the memory of our heroes not only with flags and festivities, but with a renewed commitment to the values they fought for: unity, justice, and love of country.
Whether you are here on these islands or far across the seas, you carry the Philippines with you. That is the truest mark of a Filipino. Let us honor their legacy by standing together united, proud, and Filipino.

To officially recognize its top performing students for the Academic Year 2025โ2026, Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Dipolog Campus held its highly anticipated Honors Day 2026 on May 26, 2026, at the campus gymnasium.
Anchored on the theme "Engaging Local Partnership and International Cooperation: Advancing Sustainable Development Goals," the event highlighted the university's commitment to academic excellence and global sustainability.
The ceremony commenced with a grand processional featuring the honorees and their proud parents, university faculty and staff, administrative officials, JRMSU key officials, the Campus Director, the University President, and the distinguished guest speaker.
In his warm welcome address, Campus Director Dr. Marvin A. Recapente commended the student achievers for their resilience.
"Let this achievement remind you that discipline and perseverance matter, especially when challenges come. May we all be reminded that excellence is not only about reaching a milestone but also about maintaining the commitment to grow and improve." Dr. Recapente remarked.
The eventโs keynote speaker was Police Captain Attorney Gabriel L. Gahuman Jr., Assistant Provincial Legal Officer of the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office. In his powerful address, PCpt. Atty. Gahuman Jr. emphasized the intersection of discipline, public service, and academic brilliance.
"Success is not only about titles. It is about how many lives you've touched, the difference you made, and the legacy you leave," PCpt. Atty. Gahuman Jr. noted. He challenged the student achievers to leverage their education to foster meaningful local partnerships and contribute actively to global sustainable development goals, reminding them of their roles as future leaders.
The high point of the event was the official presentation of awards to the university's outstanding students. This year's batch of awardees boasted an impressive roster with 119 Administrator's Listers and 347 Dean's Listers for Bachelor Degrees; 1 With High Honors and 3 With Honors for Associate Degrees, and; 56 Special Citations for Academic Excellence for Graduating Students.
The gathering was further elevated by an inspirational message from JRMS University President, Dr. Maria Rio Abdon Naguit. She drove home a powerful message by reminding students that "your attitude determines your altitude," emphasizing that character outweighs mere intellectual capability.
"Your character will always be more important than your accomplishments. Intelligence may open doors to opportunities, but character determines how far a person can truly go and how responsibly those opportunities will be used," Dr. Naguit emphasized.
The event was also graced by a series of captivating musical divertissements by the Dimasalang Choristers, proving that excellence does not only live inside the classroom but thrives beautifully within the universityโs culture and the arts.
The academic celebration drew to a close with Dr. Ma. Estela A. Sescon, Associate Dean of the College of Teacher Education, delivering the closing remarks, followed by the community singing of the JRMSU Hymn.
Honors Day 2026 stood as a definitive testament to JRMSUโs unwavering mission to produce holistic, principal-centered professionals capable of making a significant impact on both the local community and the global stage.
