FEBRUARY 1, 2024| Gender and Development- Mindanao State University Maguindanao supports the WORLD HIJAB DAY on every 1st day of February with the theme "Veiled in Strength". The House of Representatives of the Philippines approved 1 February as "Annual National Hijab Day" to promote an understanding of the Muslim tradition in 2021 but it was introduced and founded first by Nazma Khan in 2013 participated by more than 140 countries worldwide.

The purpose of the celebration is to raise awareness on the importance of hijab and why hijabophobia has to stop. As Jackline Urejeni from Rwanda, serving in South Sudan said "Women are effective in building peace and unity. Meaning, with our hijab it symbolizes that we are part of the decision making to create peace and unity.

The Hijab is more than just a covering for the heads of a women, It serves as a declaration of their moral principles, a mark of their devotion to their faith and culture, and a continual reminder of the respect and decency they are due.

In addition, hijabophobia is one of the factor why most women have been discriminated by the society. "Hijabophobia is a type of religious and cultural discrimination against Muslim women who wear the hijab.[1] The discrimination has had manifestations in public, working and educational places."

NATIONAL HEROES DAY| We honor the patriotism and valor of the brave souls who courageously fought for our country's freedom and defended our national sovereignty. Their collective selflessness and sacrifice have set the democratic standards and ideals upon which our nation was founded and the main reason why we enjoy the blessing of independence and liberty up to this day.

We also honor the ordinary Filipino, including those living and working overseas who despite the hardships and challenges in life, continue to work for the betterment of their families and local communities, and the progress and development of the nation.

Every Filipino can be a hero in their own life little ways. As we commemorate National Heroes Day, May we continue to uphold their unselfish and noble deeds in our everyday actions as we work together in fighting corruption and other ills of the society, effecting meaningful change for everybody, specifically the poor and the marginalized and ensuring thtno one is left behind.

Happy National Heroes Day!🇵🇭

Mothers need to practice breastfeeding TSEK (Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo) to ensure that infants receive the best nutrition for optimum Growth, Health and Development particularly during the first 1000 days.

BREASTFEEDING TSEK means:

•TAMA - immediate skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby after birth, and initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of life

•SAPAT - The mother need not worry if she is not producing much milk during the first few days after the child's birth. Little breastmilk is enough for the first week and frequent breastfeeding ensures continuous breastmilk supply to respond to the increasing needs of the baby.

•EKSKLUSIBO - Giving only breastmilk and no other liquid to the baby for the first six months. Breastmilk has all the water and nutrients that the baby needs for the first six (6) months after which the baby should be given appropriate complimentary foods while continuing

Breastfeeding provides essential health and nutritional benefits for infants and young children, yielding positive lifelong impacts and contributing to the development of healthier populations.

MSU-Maguindanao joins the nation in celebrating the
hardworking Filipinos across the country.

On May 2, 2023 | The Human Resource and Management Office, in coordination with the Gender and Development Office, conducted Trivia Game to honor the contributions of all employees in this University.

Labor Day, also known as "Araw ng Manggagawa" is celebrated Annually since May 1, 1903 where
more than 100,000 employees were organized by the
country's first labor organization, "Union Obrera
Democratica de Filipina (U.O.D.F.)." to march from
Tondo's Plaza Moriones to Malacanang. These workers protested and demanded fair wages and better working conditions from the then-American-led government. The event is considered one of the first protests in the streets of Manila.

Pagpupugay para sa bawat manggagawang Pilipino na nagtatrabaho para itaguyod ang kani-kanilang pamilya.

Kudos! 💜
