In the midst of major global and national health issues, anyone who chooses a career in Health Education faces a future full of opportunities. Today, there is a growing demand for qualified health educators in public and private institutions. Schools and other health agencies need health educators in the successful implementation of their health programs. Because it can serve both as a pre-medic

al course and a training ground for health educators, many graduates of the program are now medical doctors, professors, health researchers, school or public health educators, and holders of administrative positions in various institutions. In 1929, the Health Education Section in the UP College of Education was established. The program was developed by Cleotilde Patton, a health educator from the United States. It was designed to meet the needs for professional preparation of health teachers for secondary schools. What are the current Health Education programs being offered by the UP College of Education? These are:
• Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) Major in Health Education
• Master of Arts in Education (MA. BSE Major in Health Education

The BSE Major in Health Education program prepares future health educators by developing their competencies in various health content areas and enhancing their skills in making health teaching interesting and relevant to the learners. It includes the following courses:
• Fundamentals of Healthful Living
• Consumer Health and Drug Education
• Nutrition for Health Education Students
• Sexuality Education
• Healthful School-Community Living
• Community Organization for Health Education
• Population Education
• Maternal and Child Health
• Applied Microbiology and Epidemiology for Health Education Students
• School Health Supervision
• Safety Education and First Aid
• The Teaching of Health Education

B. Master of Arts in Education (MA. Ed) Major in Health Education

It is a program designed for teachers, health personnel, administrators, and supervisors in health education working in both government and non-government institutions with programs on education, health, social welfare, community development, and industry. The program is geared towards:
• working closely with community people to help them identify and solve health needs and problems through organized efforts
• developing and evaluating instructional materials in health education and related areas
• applying principles and approaches in population education at various levels of instruction
• enhancing competencies in providing health services and primary health care
• conducting health research
• administering, supervising, and coordinating school/community health education programs
