UPGAA, in partnership with PNOC EC and UP-NIGS, is offering a 𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗼𝗻𝗲-𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. This training includes lunch and a digital certificate of completion after the seminar.

𝗨𝗣𝗚𝗔𝗔 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿

The UP Geology Alumni Association (UPGAA) successfully hosted a free, one-day seminar on the basics of geotechnical core logging last Saturday, May 23, at the UPGAA Lounge in the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS), UP Diliman.

The event marked a significant milestone in UPGAA’s ongoing initiative to strengthen alumni relations and bridge the gap between different generations of UP geologists. Twenty participants attended the seminar, representing a diverse cohort that ranged from eager, newly-licensed geologists to more experienced professionals looking to explore engineering geology.

During the intensive, hands-on exercise, participants had the unique opportunity to examine and log physical cores under the direct guidance of industry veteran 𝗠𝗿. 𝗘𝗱𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗼 "𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴" 𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘀. UPGAA extends its deepest gratitude to Mr. Vargas for his immense generosity in volunteering his time and enthusiastically sharing his decades of expertise in engineering geology.

This was made possible through the vital support of 𝗖𝗗𝗦𝗜, our official event partner and sponsor, under the leadership of 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗼 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗮𝗻̃𝗮, a UP Mining Engineering alumnus. CDSI brings more than four decades of trusted service to the field of geotechnical engineering, drilling, and exploration. The company was warmly represented at the venue by 𝗠𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿, a senior geologist at CDSI.

Last Saturday's seminar served as a strong proof of concept for UPGAA's long-term vision. Moving forward, we aim to organize more mentorship programs and training initiatives designed to empower early-career professionals and connect members with career opportunities.

UPGAA highly welcomes suggestions, ideas, and volunteer efforts from our seasoned alumni community to help lead and facilitate future mentorship sessions. Together, let us continue to uplift and support the next generation of UP geologists.
