At Artbox Learning Hub, we don’t just teach painting techniques—we also help students develop ideas and express life truths through their artwork.
Last March 28, children from UCM (Union Church of Manila) enjoyed an art workshop where we painted symbols of new life based on 2 Cor. 5:17.

With fuel prices rising, conflicts escalating, and our government officials arguing over contingency plans, everything starts to feel uncertain.

As EdPsych practitioners, we encourage you to ask the most important questions nowadays:
If you're a teacher:
-How have you been teaching lately?
-What should your classroom look like in the next few weeks?
-What should you be prioritizing?

If you're a student:
-How have you been managing?
-Has the current crisis affected your learning?
-How has it been affecting you so far?

If you're a parent:
-How have you been supporting your child at home?
-What has been your priority lately?
-How can you ensure a loving, supportive environment amid uncertain times?

Life continues. Time moves things further along. So for today, our is simple: Help others adapt.

In times of crisis, learning doesn't (and shouldn't) stop. Not everyone is able to adapt though. Here are 3 practical tips (learning innovations!) for right now:

1. Aim for low-resource, high-impact learning
-Ask your students for feedback. Give them an informal survey so you can find out exactly what they need, and then go from there.
-Plan your onsite and online classes well. To determine which activities to give for each modality, go back to your course goals and intended learning outcomes and prioritize. Is it best to do collaborative work face-to-face or online? Is it better to lecture onsite or online? Can you give offline resources instead? Would it motivate your students if they can choose how to do some of their tasks?

Not every student has stable access. So design for flexibility.

2. Anchor your tasks on real-world applications
Some examples:
-Have students create a budget (for a family, a project, etc.) with rising costs
-Do community mapping
-Discuss local issues and go problem-based learning

Make learning relevant to what students are living through.

3. Prioritize rhythm over rigid routines
Plan your lessons so you use:
-Shorter learning cycles
-Clear weekly objectives set and communicated to the class
-Accepting that some things are "nice-to-do/have" but for now, focus should be on "must 'do"

When you're predictable, that builds psychological safety. When learners feel safe, they engage more and learn better.

A reminder: As teachers, we don't just deliver lessons. We take care of our students holistically. So let's preserve stability in our classrooms so they can continue to learn meaningfully.
