Students, teachers, and staff of Digos City National High School (DiCNHS) safely evacuated campus after a strong earthquake was felt in Digos City, Monday.
School officials immediately activated safety protocols, enabling learners and personnel to proceed to designated safe areas while observing established earthquake procedures.
โOne challenge I faced was moving down the crowded stairway carefully while many students were evacuating at the same time, making it difficult to move quickly and safely,โ said a Grade 11 student whose classroom was located on the second floor.
She added that their adviser remained calm and immediately instructed the class to follow earthquake safety procedures.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which occurred at around 7:37 a.m., had its epicenter located 32 kilometers west of Maasim, Sarangani.
The earthquake prompted monitoring and response efforts in affected areas, including Digos City.
In response, the Office of the City Mayor issued Executive Order No. 31, Series of 2026, suspending classes in all public and private schools in Digos City pending structural safety inspections and evaluations of school facilities.
The orderly evacuation and adherence to established safety measures highlighted the value of disaster preparedness in protecting learners and personnel during emergencies.
