Learning continuity despite the typhoon remains a vital commitment of the education sector, as schools, teachers, students, and families work together to ensure that education does not stop in times of crisis. Although strong winds, flooding, power outages, and damaged infrastructure disrupt regular classes, alternative learning strategies such as modular learning, online platforms, radio-based instruction, and flexible schedules help sustain the teaching–learning process.

Dulangan Elementary School teachers adapt lessons to the realities faced by learners, showing compassion and creativity, while parents provide essential support at home. These collective efforts highlight the resilience of our education system, proving that even in the face of natural disasters, learning can continue and hope for a better future remains strong.

Lighting Minds and Hearts: A Culminating Celebration of National Reading Month

The final day of our National Reading Month celebration unfolded with joy, inspiration, and meaningful connections as Dulangan ES learners were treated to stories, surprises, and heartfelt community engagement. This year’s culmination highlighted the spirit of reading not just as an academic skill, but as a bridge that connects people from all walks of life.

The morning began with a special visit from the BJMP–Male Dormitory, headed by JCINSP Jul Akbar L. Jamiri, whose team delivered a message emphasizing second chances, learning, and the power of books to shape character and future paths. Our mystery reader, JO1 Estena, captured the attention of the children with a lively storytelling session that blended discipline, values, and imagination. Adding excitement, JO1 Rivera conducted a short drill that energized the learners and allowed them a glimpse into the discipline and teamwork practiced in their line of service.

More than their time and presence, the BJMP team extended their generosity by serving rice soup and boiled eggs to all the learners which is an act of kindness that warmed both stomachs and hearts. It was a simple yet meaningful reminder that nourishment, whether through food or stories, plays a vital role in a child’s growth.

The celebration continued in the afternoon with a colorful Book Character and Career Costume Parade. Learners proudly marched in costumes inspired by their favorite storybook heroes and future professions, transforming the school grounds into a lively runway of creativity and dreams. Each child walked with confidence, an evidence that reading indeed inspires imagination and ambition.

Adding to the excitement, FO1 Lumen from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) stepped in as the afternoon’s mystery reader. With charisma and a heart for service, FO1 Lumen brought stories to life, further reinforcing the message that community helpers play a vital role not only in protecting lives but in shaping young minds.

To sweeten the day, Sir Alfonso Gomez Jr. delighted the students by donating one whole tube of ice cream, much to the children’s delight. Their smiles were as bright as the day itself. A proof that small acts of generosity create lasting joy.

The entire culmination program was a testament to how reading brings communities together. From uniformed service officers to teachers, parents, and students, everyone shared in the same mission: nurturing a love for books, learning, and lifelong curiosity.

As National Reading Month comes to a close, our hearts remain full and grateful for the stories shared, lessons learned, and partnerships strengthened. Truly, when a community comes together to promote literacy, every child becomes empowered to dream, explore, and soar.

📚✨ MYSTERY READERS OF THE WEEK: HONORING OUR COMMUNITY HEROES ✨📚

This week, our school opened its doors to a special set of guests who brought stories to life and inspired our learners in the most meaningful way. As part of our Reading Month celebration, we proudly featured our Mystery Readers of the Week who are dedicated public servants from the PNP Headquarters, PNP Digos City, and Digos Water District. Their presence not only enriched our reading activities but also empowered our learners to see reading as a bridge toward learning, imagination, and community connection.

Our Mystery Readers took turns visiting various grade levels, each bringing a story that sparked joy and curiosity among the learners.

👮 PNP Headquarters
Our Grade 2 learners were thrilled to be visited by officers from the PNP Headquarters. Their warm storytelling by the storyteller NUP Constantino, combined with values of discipline, safety, and service by PSG Abrea, left a lasting impression on the young audience. Students eagerly listened and interacted, inspired by Police Officer Senarillos magic tricks and dedication to both reading and public service.

👮 PNP Digos City
PNP Digos City headed by PLTCOL Peter Glenn D. Ipong visited Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 2, and Grade 4 with their mystery reader PSMS Lenyl B. Abangan. Their stories not only entertained the learners but also modeled the importance of reading as a daily habit. The officers brought lively energy to each classroom, showing that uniformed personnel are also advocates of education, kindness, and lifelong learning.

💧 Digos Water District
For Grade 3, the Digos Water District General Manager Engr. Franklin S. Retes, PhD shared his time and voices as Mystery Reader. His participation showed our pupils that community helpers play an important role not only in providing essential services but also in inspiring young minds. The learners enjoyed the fun and interactive storytelling sessions that helped strengthen their love for books.

This week’s Mystery Readers truly embodied the spirit of collaboration between the school and the community. Their involvement served as a beautiful reminder that nurturing a child’s love for reading is a shared responsibility and when we work together, the impact is powerful.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners from PNP Headquarters, PNP Digos City, and Digos Water District for helping make our Reading Month celebration more meaningful and memorable. Your stories, time, and dedication will be remembered by our learners for years to come.
