The first day of classes opened with a burst of color and excitement. Learners streamed onto campus, their eyes lighting up at the sight of vibrant, โwowโ classrooms decked with balloons and cheerful decorations. Teachers welcomed everyone with warm smiles and fun freebies that set a festive tone. Laughter and chatter filled the hallways as children compared new notebooks, posed for photos, and found their seats. The energy was contagiousโan encouraging start to a brand-new school year.
As the community gathered for the flag ceremony, a special visitor arrived: Sir Airon Alejandro, the Division Planning Officer, who came to observe and support the schoolโs opening activities. His presence added a sense of pride and purpose to the morning. Teachers stood in neat rows, students formed their lines, and the familiar rhythm of the ceremony brought a calm, respectful focus. Parents looked on from the sidelines, eager and proud to see their children begin this milestone day.
During the introductions led by the school principal, Maโam Norwenda G. Hairil, the event took an unexpected turn. A tremor rippled through the groundsโan earthquake was felt. In that moment, the joyful buzz gave way to swift, practiced action. Children instinctively ducked and covered their heads shielding themselves as they had been taught. Demonstrating excellent composure, the Kindergarten to Grade 6 learners immediately executed the "๐ฟ๐ช๐๐ , ๐พ๐ค๐ซ๐๐ง, ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ค๐ก๐" protocol.
Teachers moved quickly and calmly, guiding learners to the evacuation area with reassuring voices and clear signals. Lines formed efficiently, attendance was checked, and safety protocols clicked into place. Parents, alerted by the commotion, came to fetch their children, meeting them with relief and gratitude. Throughout it all, the schoolโs collective composureโstudents, staff, and familiesโwas evident.
In the aftermath, one lesson stood out above all: the The Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill that everyone had practiced proved essential, enabling both kids and teachers to handle the situation with calm and confidence. What began as a colorful, joy-filled opening day became a powerful reminder that celebration and safety can go hand in handโand that a well-practiced plan turns unexpected moments into opportunities for resilience.

Partners in Learning: Welcoming School Year 2026โ2027
Pedro S. Garcia Elementary School conducted a Parentsโ Orientation on the morning of June 4, 2026. The activity was part of the Brigada Eskwela (BE) and Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE) programs to prepare parents and guardians for the opening of School Year 2026โ2027. It aimed to provide important information about school programs, policies, and activities that will help learners succeed throughout the school year.
The program started with the singing of the National Anthem led by Mr. Geoffrey S. Andrade, followed by an invocation. After the preliminaries, a welcome message was delivered by Ms. Ana R. Landero. She warmly welcomed all the parents and expressed her appreciation for their presence and support. Her message emphasized the importance of partnership between the school and the home in helping children learn and grow.
A message was also delivered by Mr. Neil Escaso, the school's PTA President. He encouraged parents to actively participate in their children's education and reminded everyone that learning becomes more effective when teachers and parents work together. His inspiring words highlighted the shared responsibility of guiding learners toward success.
Likewise, a message was given by Maโam Maricel Mahasol, the DSWD 4Ps City Link Head, who shared important reminders with the 4Ps beneficiaries. She encouraged parents to continue supporting their children's education, comply with program requirements, and actively participate in school activities to help their children achieve success.
Mrs. Norwenda G. Hairil, School Principal II, discussed DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2026, titled "Guidelines on the Implementation of the Three-Term School Calendar in Basic Education." She explained the rationale behind the implementation of the three-term school calendar, emphasizing its goal of maximizing instructional time, improving learning continuity, and enhancing learner achievement. Parents were also informed of important school dates, academic expectations, and their role in supporting their children's learning throughout the school year.
Ms. Relialyn A. Ramos also presented information about Brigada Eskwela and the enrollment procedures. These discussions helped parents understand the school's plans and the different ways they can support school programs and initiatives.
The activity concluded with a heartfelt message of gratitude delivered by Mrs. Maria Gilda C. Lustre, who expressed her sincere appreciation to all the parents, guests, and stakeholders for their active participation and unwavering support of the school's programs and initiatives.
