Reading Intervention Program for Generation Alpha Learners: MAKAKABASA KA
As part of the schoolโs Reading Intervention Program of Dawis Elemenrary School, a structured Read-Aloud session catering the ARAL Reading Learners was conducted to support struggling readers and enhance learnersโ comprehension, vocabulary development, and love for reading. The session catered to Generation Alpha learners who are highly visual, technology-oriented, and responsive to interactive learning experiences.
The activity began with a motivation strategy using visual prompts and prediction questions to activate prior knowledge. Learners were encouraged to observe the book cover and share what they think the story would be about. This strategy increased engagement and curiosity before the actual reading.
During the read-aloud proper, the guest-reader Jayrome Perocillo Calvo, SK secretary modeled fluent and expressive reading, demonstrating correct pronunciation, appropriate pacing, and voice modulation. Digital visual aids were integrated to sustain attention and provide contextual support for unfamiliar words. Vocabulary words were unlocked using contextual clues, picture association, and simple discussion.
The session concluded with formative assessment through oral questioning and observation of participation. Results showed improved engagement, better word recognition, and increased confidence among learners.
Overall, the Read-Aloud session proved to be an effective strategy in addressing reading gaps while fostering a positive reading culture among Generation Alpha learners.
