History Made: 12 Grade 1 SSES Champions Strike Gold and Open Doors to the International Stage
DIGOS CITY CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (DCCES) celebrates a remarkable milestone as its twelve Grade 1 Special, Science, Elementary School (SSES) learners earned Gold Awards at the National Finals of HIPPO The Contest 2026 held at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City, on May 30, 2026.
Competing against some of the country's brightest young English learners, the twelve Grade 1 pupils showcased exceptional language proficiency, confidence, and determination, proving that age is never a barrier to excellence.

Among the outstanding achievers, Saeragh Nya Estampa distinguished herself by securing Rank 4 among all competitors in the Baby Hippo Category nationwide. Her exceptional performance earned her a coveted spot in the Continental Round, where she will proudly represent the Philippines in Phuket, Thailand.
Meanwhile, the remaining eleven Grade 1 SSES learners have also earned the opportunity to continue their international journey through the HIPPO Play-Off Round, where they will compete for slots to advance to either Qatar or the United Kingdom.
Behind this extraordinary achievement is the unwavering dedication of their coach and Grade 1-SSES adviser, Diana Rose C. Verdida.
During the preliminary round, Verdida was recognized as the Most Outstanding Coach, a testament to her passion, commitment, and relentless efforts in preparing her young learners for success.
Adding to the school's honors, Digos City Central Elementary School was also awarded Top Performing School and Most Outstanding School during the preliminary round, highlighting the institution's excellence in nurturing globally competitive learners.
For Coach Verdida, the journey was far from easy. Countless hours of preparation, personal sacrifices, financial constraints, and numerous challenges tested her resolve. Yet through faith, perseverance, and the support of the school community and parents, the dream became a reality. "Every challenge became worthwhile when I saw these children grow, believe in themselves, and achieve what once seemed impossible. This victory belongs to the learners, their parents, our school, and above all, to God who remained faithful throughout this journey," she shared.
School Principal Aldin Jr. J. Barsalote expressed his pride in the achievements of the learners and their coach.
"This accomplishment reflects the excellence, discipline, and determination of our learners, the dedication of our teachers, and the strong partnership between the school and parents. We are immensely proud of our Grade 1 SSES pupils for bringing honor not only to DCCES but also to our community," he said.
The entire DCCES family, together with the proud parents and supporters, celebrates this historic achievement. Their success serves as an inspiration to fellow learners, proving that with hard work, proper guidance, perseverance, and faith in God, extraordinary things are possible.
