‎The Council of Student Organization - UM Digos College, with its chairpersons Aljeddah M. Cocamas, Arman Bedionets, and Janiel A Gaviola, spearheaded the first ADAMAS Awards to recognize the student leaders and their contributions to the growth of the college throughout the academic year.
‎
‎Through the theme, “Shaped by Adversity, Defined by
‎Excellence: Honoring Resilient Leaders.” the student leaders from different departments and organizations gathered at the Dr. Luisa E. Tinio Gymnasium on July 13, 2026.
‎
‎Aljeddah Cocamas, former CSO President, shared in his speech the struggles of student leaders.
‎
‎“Leadership is indeed kapoy. It is draining. It is stressful. It demands your time, your energy, your patience, your resources, and sometimes even your peace,” Cocamas said.
‎
‎Cocamas added that behind every successful event, student leaders often sacrifice their sleep, and numerous disappointments.
‎
‎“Beyond every successful project are countless meetings, revisions, sleepless nights, difficult conversations, disappointments, and silent sacrifices that rarely make it to the final report,” he added.
‎
‎Furthermore, Cocamas encouraged the student leaders to always find the fire to serve and carry their purpose.
‎
‎“When your purpose is not to be applauded, not to be recognized, not to gain a title, but to genuinely serve for the common good, then every challenge becomes worth carrying,” he urged.
‎
‎He also stressed that leadership does not begin when someone is elected. Leadership begins the moment a student decides to become part of something greater than themselves.
‎
‎The ADAMAS Awards is an annual event that honors the efforts of every student leader who contributes to the growth of the institution.

The years of perseverance, commitment, and raw hardships as a college student are finally over. Looking back, I used to always wonder: How would it feel to finally complete all these subjects and pass? What would the rewards be after all of this?
Now I know. The road that took me here was lined with definitive road signs that shaped my journey and made this accomplishment possible.

Before entering college, I was warned that the path would be a 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐛 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝. I wasn't hesitant at all back then, I confidently thought that if academics were the only hurdle, I would pass with ease. But I was wrong. It was a steep climb in every sense—stretching far beyond academics. The path was cluttered with relentless deadlines, demanding projects, financial strain, and deep moments of self-realization where I questioned if I could even survive. It was a climb so exhausting that a single day’s energy was never enough to get through. It truly made me wish, "𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙥𝙖 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙚 𝙠𝙤𝙜 𝙠𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙜 𝙨𝙖 𝙪𝙣𝙖, 𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙠𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙠𝙤 𝙣𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙜 𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙩𝙖 𝙨𝙖 𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙜."

College was never just a series of "what-ifs"; it was a grueling,𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝. I am not exaggerating, that is exactly what it felt like. You quickly realize it isn't just about finishing daily deadlines and submissions; it’s about securing the exact grades you need to pass and ensuring you can even enroll for the next semester. It isn't just about sitting through a lesson; it’s about deeply mastering the concepts to prove to yourself and others, "I can." It isn't just about listening to a teacher; it’s about absorbing a transfer of knowledge that you must fully understand, knowing that sooner than later, you will be the one standing at the front to share that knowledge with others. It isn't just pocket money that saves your day; it’s the financial budgeting that determines whether you survive the rest of the semester and beyond. And it isn't just about the sleepless nights you endure, but the agonizing weight of waiting and wondering, "𝙉𝙖𝙠𝙖 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙖𝙧 𝙠𝙖𝙝𝙖 𝙠𝙤 𝙖𝙩𝙤? 𝙉𝙖𝙜-𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙬 𝙧𝙖 𝙗𝙖 𝙟𝙪𝙙 𝙠𝙤𝙜 𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬."

Finally, after shifting from a cautious, slow speed to full blast, I reached the 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. I made it. Looking at my portal, I feel completely fulfilled seeing every single subject passed. Looking at those numbers, I see the literal fruit of every hardship and sacrifice I made. They truly reflect every ounce of effort and ex*****on I poured into this degree. "𝙒𝙖 𝙣𝙖𝙠𝙤𝙮 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙬𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙖 𝙖𝙠𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙠𝙖𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙩𝙤 𝙣𝙖."

The long highway I traveled ultimately led to a digital portal that now stands as a mirror of my success and determination. To the person reading this until the end: may the blank spaces on your own portals soon be filled with your desired numbers, and may you fulfill every single one of your dreams.

‎That was the unwritten verdict hanging in the air during the closed-door interview for the Mutya ng UM 2025. When 𝐌𝐬. 𝐇𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐘𝐯𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚 presented Project UMPeaceSA, a student-led peace initiative, as her personal platform, questions were raised: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞? 𝐖𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐌 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫? 𝐖𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐞?

‎The question missed the point of what harmony actually means. Peace is misunderstood when defined only as the absence of physical violence. True advocacy looks beneath the surface, identifying the gaps where emotional and social support are thin. Project UMPeaceSA was built for exactly that; its goal is not to break up fistfights but to 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭.
