‎That was the unwritten verdict hanging in the air during the closed-door interview for the Mutya ng UM 2025. When 𝐌𝐬. 𝐇𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐘𝐯𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐕𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐥𝐚 presented Project UMPeaceSA, a student-led peace initiative, as her personal platform, questions were raised: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞? 𝐖𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐌 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫? 𝐖𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐞?

‎The question missed the point of what harmony actually means. Peace is misunderstood when defined only as the absence of physical violence. True advocacy looks beneath the surface, identifying the gaps where emotional and social support are thin. Project UMPeaceSA was built for exactly that; its goal is not to break up fistfights but to 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭.

‎This advocacy refuses to stay contained within the classroom; it takes to the streets through grassroots community outreach and public seminars to champion the truth that peace always starts at home. Harmony must first be practiced in our daily routines and households. In celebration of the Month of the Ocean, UM Digos College faculty and students took part in the local government unit's initiative for a Mangrove Planting and Clean-up Drive yesterday, May 23, 2026, at Punta Biao, Cogon.

Present in the said activity is the Dean of College, Tomas Jr. A. Diquito, PhD, faculty, and the students from the Department of Teacher Education.

‎The initiative shows UMDiC’s ongoing commitment to supporting environmental movements and protecting our planet.

UM Digos College has once again proven its excellence by claiming the Overall Champion at the 2026 UM Inter Branch Expression Skills competition held on April 28 at UM Bansalan College.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the institution as it celebrates a two year winning streak. The college successfully defended the title they earned in 2025 held at UM Peñaplata College, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in the annual skills showcase.

The win is a continuation of a proud legacy. Before this recent success, the Senior High School department also finished as overall champion, setting a high standard for the college students to follow.

Student participants and faculty shared a brief but joyful celebration following the announcement. For many, this win represents months of preparation and a commitment to keeping the trophy in Digos City for another year.

The event brought together talented students from different UM campuses who all showed off their impressive skills. The staff were also present, supporting and guiding their well-prepared delegates throughout the various competitions.

The victory brought immense pride to UMDC as several students took home major awards. These winners proved that they have the sharpness and determination to succeed even outside their home campus. This big win highlights that the hard work and talent nurtured at UMDC can truly stand out.
