A Visionary. A Trailblazer. A Legacy That Lives On.

Today, we honor the 112th birth anniversary of Guillermo E. Torres, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation of the University of Mindanao on July 27, 1946. Through his commitment to accessible and quality education, generations of learners have been empowered to pursue their dreams and create meaningful impact in society.

As we celebrate his life and legacy, may we continue to embody the values of excellence, service, and leadership that he championed. Happy 117th Birth Anniversary, Founder Guillermo E. Torres.

Thank you for including the Learning and Information Center (LIC) in your benchmarking visit, Green Valley College!

As part of their benchmarking activity with the College of Engineering Education, 84 Mechanical Engineering students from Green Valley College took the opportunity to visit the LIC to explore how our library supports teaching, learning, research, and innovation within the University.

The delegation was led by their Dean, Ms. Rosalie Cabeltes, Program Head, Mr. Riolando Perez, and Faculty Members, Ms. Romejane Dado and Ms. Karen Langreo. During the visit, the students were introduced to the libraryโ€™s academic resources, digital learning spaces, collaborative facilities, and resource management systems that contribute to a dynamic learning environment.

Guided by our librarians, Ms. Khristine Brylle B. Mancao and Mr. Joenelle Ib-ib, the visitors were given a comprehensive tour of the LIC and gained insights into the services, technologies, and best practices that support academic excellence and student success.

We are honored that Green Valley College chose to include the LIC in their benchmarking experience. We hope the visit provided valuable insights and inspiration as they continue their pursuit of excellence in engineering education and beyond. Thank you for visiting, and we look forward to future opportunities for collaboration!

The word "innovation" comes from the Latin word "innovatio," which is derived from the verb "innovare", meaning "to renew" or "to make new".

Today, the LIC and IMS teams proudly honored this UM's core value. We came together dressed in blueโ€”a color that beautifully symbolizes calm, focus, and relaxation.

In the midst of building new ideas, continuous learning, and forward-thinking breakthroughs, we remind ourselves that true innovation thrives in an environment of calm, steady dedication.

Joining all the way from Latvia, for a one-week training, engaging in workshops and conferences on "Intensive Latvian Culture and Language" and "Smart Borders: Digital Innovation and Securityโ€, is our Head-LIC, Ms. Brigida E. Bacani,

Here's to renewing our minds, refreshing our goals, and keeping the UM spirit of innovation alive!

Happy International Museum Day 2026! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

The LIC, with gratitude, successfully conducted the celebration of International Museum Day today!

The program opened with a powerful message from our Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, who reflected on the rich diversity of the Filipino people and the importance of reclaiming our shared identity as a nation. He emphasized that despite our cultural richness, political and religious divisions have often weakened our sense of unity and even our appreciation for institutions such as museums. Activities like this, however, remind us that museums can become spaces that encourage understanding, dialogue, and solidarity among Filipinos.

Our distinguished speakers then explored this yearโ€™s meaningful themes:

โœจ Ms. Ann Rosette Crelencia of the National Museum of the Philippines delivered an insightful discussion on โ€œMuseums as Bridges.โ€ She highlighted how museums create meaningful connections between people, places, communities, cultures, and even ideasโ€”bridging generations and fostering deeper understanding through shared heritage and stories.

โœจ Dr. Pamela Castrillo of Museo Dabawenyo presented the topic โ€œMuseums as Spaces for Dialogue and Peace.โ€ She discussed why museums matter more than ever in todayโ€™s society and how they can become spaces that nurture unity, understanding, and peace. She further demonstrated how these ideals are practiced in a local context through the initiatives and experiences of Museo Dabawenyo.

Through these engaging discussions, participants were reminded that museums are not merely repositories of artifactsโ€”they are living spaces that preserve identity, inspire conversations, and strengthen communities through inclusivity and cultural understanding.

The LIC sincerely thanks our distinguished speakers, librarians, and students for making this celebration meaningful and impactful. Together, let us continue to preserve our heritage and build bridges of unity across communities, beliefs, and generations.
