𝐍𝐍𝐂 𝐗𝐈 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐝

Driven by a commitment to leave no one behind, the National Nutrition Council XI (NNC XI) joins the TEAM Humanity in their Feeding and Medical Mission last August 10, 2026 at the Davao School for the Blind (DSB) to bring specialized support and educational resources to the visually impaired children and teenagers.

Spearheaded by Executive Director Richard Año II with Deputy Executive Assistant Mr. Joel B. Junsay, TEAM Humanity has extended their support to the marginalized, deprived and abandoned sectors by providing medicines and vitamins, boxes of food packs by the Department of Social Welfare and Development XI, School hygiene kits and meals.

Represented by Project Development Officer I Vivia Nikka Miguel, NNC XI extended their support by providing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on Pinggang Pinoy to promote proper eating health habits for the learners. During her message, she emphasizes that nutrition belongs to everyone because it is essential for them to learn effectively and reach their full potential.

This activity marks as NNC XI's first engagement with the institution. To sustain this Momentum, PDO I Miguel and DSB Project Development Officer Ms. Raissa Cinco Ling discussed on the future collaboration potentially through the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and on the proposed translation of IEC materials into Braille, a universal tactile code of raised dots, enabling visually impaired individuals to learn good nutrition.

At NNC XI, a healthier nation also stems out from radical inclusion, embodying the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) overarching theme, "Sa PPAN, Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para Sa Lahat" to reaffirm that equal access to good nutrition is not a privilege but a right for all Filipinos across all walks of life.

Every tap on the pavement tells a story.

It’s the story of a young student taking their first confident steps across a bustling Davao street. It’s the sound of learning to navigate obstacles, mapping out the world through sound and touch, and choosing courage over fear every single day.

Today, as we observe National White Cane Safety Day across the Philippines (pursuant to Republic Act 6759), the Davao School for the Blind joins the nation in celebrating more than just a tool—we celebrate independence, dignity, and inclusion.

The white cane is a symbol of mobility and self-reliance. But true accessibility requires a community that sees, understands, and respects it:

🚗 On the road: Yielding right-of-way when you see a white cane in motion.

🏙️ In our city: Building accessible, obstacle-free pathways and tactile pavements.

💙 In our hearts: Recognizing that sight loss does not mean a loss of vision, talent, or potential.

Our students aren't letting darkness limit where they can go. With a white cane in hand and hope in their hearts, they are walking boldly into bright futures.

HAPPENING NOW | Career Connect: Empowerment Through Employment of Persons with Visual Impairment

The Davao School for the Blind delegation—led by BOT Chairman Dr. Maria Ann Margaret Antonio, PDO Raissa Ling, and Admin Manager Janina Marinessa Maelwas—is participating in today’s forum and job fair to champion equal rights and possibilities for visually impaired individuals.

Highlights include an inspiring session with keynote speaker Dr. Paul Wilson Almocera, RN, MD, alongside pre-employment students, and a landmark ceremonial signing with private partners such as Penongs, SM Supermarket, and SixEleven, cementing their commitment to inclusive hiring.

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲✨🌏

From June 30 – July 4, the Davao School for the Blind Working Committee embarked on a meaningful four-day mission to Singapore as part of the preparations for our upcoming 45th Anniversary Celebration in February 2027.

The trip allowed us to explore immersive experiences from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicap (SAVH), Ngee Ann Polytechnic's Dialogue in the Dark and Nox' Dining in the Dark. More than just gathering insights, the journey deepened our appreciation of innovative approaches that promote inclusion and highlight the abilities, realities, and aspirations of persons with visual impairment.

What began as a study tour became a truly transformative experience — one that will shape how we operate DSB with purpose and impact.

𝗔𝗗𝗠𝗜𝗡 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗧 𝗶𝗻 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮 (𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴 & 𝗦𝗶𝗯𝘂𝗴𝗮𝘆) 🌟

Through the support of the LGU and PDAO, our Admin reached out to visually impaired children in Zamboanga—sharing the vision of education, empowerment, and inclusion at the Davao School for the Blind. We are overjoyed to welcome 4 children from this area who are confirmed to join us in the coming academic year. Their journey reminds us that every step toward education is a step toward hope and opportunity.
