🎄 Christmas came early at The Grove! We planned an animal rescue activity… but somehow ended up with shaving cream EVERYWHERE. 😂🫧

Thankfully, our little helper didn’t just make the mess—he helped wash it up too. 😂🤍 Posted with Mommy’s Permission. Not just play. Real learning… and apparently, real cleaning!

Your 3½-year-old is learning more than letters and numbers.

At The Grove, we intentionally build literacy and math foundations—while nurturing independence, communication, curiosity, confidence, and real-life skills.

If this is the kind of preschool experience you’re looking for, message us. We’d love to see if The Grove is the right fit for your child.

One of the most amazing things we’ve witnessed this week is how much this little learner has grown.

Just 5 months ago, he could recognize only a few letters.

Now, he’s learning that the long /ā/ sound can be spelled in different ways — a_e, ai, ay, and more.

This is what intentional learning looks like: small steps, built upon one another, until suddenly you can see just how far a child has come.

Seven minutes of story time, and look at those little faces. 📖🤍

So engaged, listening, wondering, and following along with Teacher Bel. These everyday moments are where language, attention, imagination, and connection grow. 🌿

Your child is 3½. Is it time for big school?

Not necessarily.

School readiness is more than age—or knowing ABCs.

We look at communication, independence, transitions, group participation, and early literacy and numeracy foundations.

A child can be academically capable and still need time to grow into the classroom experience.

At The Grove, we build those foundations—without rushing childhood. 🌿

If you’re in Davao City and deciding what comes next, come see what a morning at The Grove looks like.

Save this for when you’re making that decision.

“But he can already read.”

That was what a mom told me when she came to me about her son.

Her concern was that he could read words and sentences, but he often struggled to understand what he had just read.

So before deciding what to teach him, we assessed him.

And what we found was interesting.

He could decode some words, but certain patterns were still taking a lot of effort—magic e words, digraphs, and blends. He could read them sometimes, but they weren’t automatic yet.

And that distinction matters.

Because when a child is still using a lot of mental effort to figure out how to read the words, there is less attention available for understanding what those words mean.

So we’re not going to simply give him more comprehension worksheets.

For now, our goal is to strengthen his reading fluency while gradually building comprehension alongside it. We want the decoding to become easier, smoother, and more automatic.

Because sometimes, when a child struggles to understand what they read, the answer isn’t simply, “Teach more comprehension.”

Sometimes, we need to look at what is happening underneath the comprehension problem.

That’s why our reading program begins with assessment.

We don’t start with a textbook.

We start with the child.

“Mom, gusto ko lang dun sa school na may kahoy.” 🌳

A child once said that. Maybe children don’t remember every activity. But they always remember how a place made them feel. That’s the kind of school we’re trying to build.

Not just play. Real learning.

One day, you’ll look back.

It won’t be the worksheets you’ll remember.
It’ll be the flowers they arranged.
The paint on their little hands.
The stories they told.
The wonder in their eyes.

Childhood can never be brought back. Not just play. Real learning.

Look at this brave little girl. 🤍

Today, she stood before her friends and shared her story—how she grew from a tiny little peanut in her mommy’s tummy to the wonderful little girl she is today.

And just look at her classmates… they were so proud of her too. 🥹

This is the kind of classroom we’re trying to build—one where children cheer each other on, celebrate one another’s courage, and grow together. Not just play. Real learning.

The paint will wash off. The joy of creating won’t.

Kids are washable. Memories aren’t. So let them get messy. Not just play. Real learning.
