On September 21, 2026, DMSFI 2nd Year Nursing Students celebrated their 22nd Cap, Pin, & Candlelight Ceremony at SMX Lanang Premier, marking a milestone in their journey toward becoming future nurses.The ceremony honors their commitment, compassion, and dedication as they continue to uphold the values of the nursing profession.

Approximately 𝟒𝟎𝟎 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐧𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐈𝐧𝐜. (𝐃𝐌𝐒𝐅𝐈) gathered at the 𝐒𝐌𝐗 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐠, 𝐃𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, on September 21 for the 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐩, 𝐏𝐢𝐧 & 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐲—a milestone marking not the end of their journey, but another step toward becoming nurses.

The afternoon began with the 𝐄𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬, followed by the procession and the formal ceremony. As the students received their caps, pins, and candles, proud parents rose from their seats, capturing photographs and videos of a moment they had likely imagined long before it arrived.But beyond the photographs was a deeper meaning.

According to 𝐋𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐇. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞, 𝐑𝐍, 𝐌𝐀𝐍, 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, the cap and pin symbolize the students' commitment to the nursing profession, while the candle represents hope. “𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧.” The message is fitting. Nursing requires more than knowledge and technical skill. It demands a willingness to remain a source of comfort and care, especially when circumstances become difficult.

Guest speaker 𝐌𝐚𝐣. 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐒. 𝐉𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐭, 𝐏𝐀𝐅, 𝐑𝐍, reminded the students that they do not need to have everything figured out at once. “𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠.” She reminded them that a BSN does not define the limits of what they can become and that graduation is not the end of learning. Instead, leadership, resilience, and the ability to respond during emergencies are qualities they will continue to develop. Her message on failure was equally significant: “𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥, 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧, 𝐚𝐝𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧.” And perhaps her simplest reminder carried the greatest weight: “𝐀𝐲𝐚𝐰 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐡𝐢 𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐧.” Do not limit yourself. The students were also reminded by 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐲. 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐋. 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚, 𝐉.𝐃., 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐌𝐒𝐅𝐈, to carry the institution's four core values—𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐝, 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞—as they continue their journey. He also encouraged parents to trust their children and their ability to face whatever challenges come their way.

The ceremony concluded with the 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞'𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫, 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞, 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐥𝐟𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐲𝐦𝐧. One line from 𝘏𝘢𝘭𝘧𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 captures where these students stand today: “𝐖𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐟𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡… 𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲.” They have come far, but there is still much farther to go. The candle may eventually burn out. The pin may become familiar against the uniform. The ceremony itself will become a memory. But the values behind them must remain. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞. 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞. As the Nursing Hymn reminds them: “𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲.”

Today, they were celebrated as student nurses. Tomorrow, they continue becoming the nurses they aspire to be. Their story is still being written. And the light they carry is theirs to keep.

As we celebrate National Heroes’ Day, let us remember those who fought with words and weapons, became the minds behind the revolution, offered shelter and care, mourned the fallen, and gave their lives so we could call our motherland our own. They live on when we speak up, are remembered when we fight injustice, and remain with us when we stand with conviction. The first gathering of Liyab for the publishing year 2026–2027 set the stage for 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 as members convened at the M2 Biology Building on August 29, 2026.

The 1st General Assembly opened with the introduction of new members to the senior publishing staff, members were also acquainted with the responsibilities and commitments that come with being part of the publication.

Following the introductions, Editor in Chief Demi Lei Venteroso presented the school calendar and laid out the upcoming activities for the academic year. Among the highlights was the approaching Intramurals, alongside a Journal Workshop scheduled three days before the event. The workshop aims to prepare the staff for producing accurate and professional coverage throughout the intramural season.

The assembly then shifted into departmental sessions which allowed members to gather with their respective teams. The gathering came to a close with individual photographs and departmental photo opportunities. More than simply marking the beginning of a new publishing year, the assembly kindled the first spark of what Liyab hopes to carry throughout 2026–2027: 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲.

𝐀𝐃𝐕𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐑𝐘 | The 𝐃𝐌𝐒𝐅𝐈 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐬 hereby informs all students, faculty, and staff that, in view of current safety and security considerations, the following arrangements shall be observed for 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟐𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔:

1. 𝐋𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 – Continue to be conducted online.
2. 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬– May be conducted either face-to-face or online, at the discretion of the concerned department, considering the nature of the activity.
3. 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬– Shall be conducted face-to-face.
4. 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥, 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐑𝐋𝐄, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 – Shall be conducted face-to-face as scheduled.

𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐚𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲:
• 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝟐 shall be used as the primary entrance.
• 𝐓𝐰𝐨 (𝟐) 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 shall be provided for students without bags, and 𝐭𝐰𝐨 (𝟐) 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 for students carrying bags, to facilitate orderly entry and security screening.
• Medical clerks assigned to 𝐃𝐌𝐒𝐅𝐈 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 may use 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝟏 for hospital duty.

All concerned are requested to ensure the orderly implementation of these arrangements while continuing to prioritize the 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 of our students, faculty, and staff.

Kamineni Tharun, an Indian medical student who was earlier reported missing, has been found safe, according to his friend.

His friend told SunStar that Tharun is currently being assisted and cared for by authorities in General Santos City.

The family of Kamineni Tharun, an Indian medical student, is appealing for help in locating him after he was reported missing since approximately July 14, 2026.

According to his family, Tharun has had no communication with them since his disappearance. The case was formally reported to the San Pedro Police Station in Davao City on August 20, 2026.
