Solidarity Statement of the SALAM - The Ateneo Muslim Society, one of the four (4) Muslim Student Associations (MSAs) of the Ateneo de Davao University with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Community.

𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐎 𝐃𝐄 𝐙𝐀𝐌𝐁𝐎𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐘

SALAM: The Ateneo Muslim Society of Ateneo de Davao University extends its deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and the entire Ateneo de Zamboanga University community following this tragic incident.

As sister Ateneans, we share in their grief and stand with a community that, like ours, is rooted in peace, dialogue, justice, and service. In this difficult time, may we respond with compassion and solidarity rather than fear, hatred, or prejudice.

Islam reminds us of the sanctity of every human life:

وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا

“And whoever saves one [life] — it is as if he had saved all of humanity.”
— Qur’an 5:32

Let this be a reminder that violence must never define our communities. The actions of one individual must never become a reason to condemn an entire community or fuel hatred against others.

May Allah ﷻ grant mercy to those who have passed, comfort to those who mourn, and strength to everyone affected. May we continue to uphold the dignity of every human life and work toward a Mindanao where peace and compassion prevail.

If one bleeds, then we bleed as one.

May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be with you.

In support to the earlier statement released by the Ateneo de Davao University, the 𝗔𝗹 𝗤𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 stands in deep sorrow and solidarity with the Ateneo de Zamboanga University community. We offer our heartfelt prayers for the families grieving their loss and for the swift, full recovery of those undergoing treatment for their injuries. May Allah (SWT) grant ease, comfort and sabr to everyone affected by this heartbreaking incident.

As an Islamic and Peacebuilding Institute, we affirm that Islam holds human life sacred and grounds itself in 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙢 ( (peace), mercy, and protection of all people. 𝗪𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝘂𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, reinstating that schools must remain safe, inviolable sanctuaries where 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻, 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿.

In this time of grief, we appeal for empathy and restraint. We urge the public to please 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Instead, let us stand united through interreligious dialogue, mutual understanding, and a shared commitment to 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲.

Ateneo de Davao University stands in grief and solidarity with Ateneo de Zamboanga University following the violence that struck their community.

We mourn those whose lives were lost. We pray for those who were injured, for the families of all those affected, and for the entire AdZU community.

We strongly condemn gun violence. There is no place for guns and armed violence in our schools and communities. A firearm must never become an answer to anger, conflict, grievance, or despair. We must reject any normalization of guns and violence in the lives of our young people.

Our schools must be places where human life is protected and where students can learn without fear. This tragedy reminds us that protecting these spaces requires not only prayer and solidarity but also vigilance, responsibility, and concrete action.

No to gun violence. No to weapons in our schools. No to the normalization of violence.

To our brothers and sisters at Ateneo de Zamboanga University: you are not alone. The Ateneo de Davao community stands with you in grief, prayer, and solidarity.

Last August 12, 2026 (Wednesday), the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University welcomed student leaders from the SALAM - The Ateneo Muslim Society, one of the Muslim Student Association (MSAs), in the university for a hybrid policy consultation session aimed at driving meaningful institutional and civic change.

The discussion centered on the important role of MSAs in amplifying Muslim student voices, advancing inclusive campus policies, and crafting community-centered proposals that foster interreligious dialogue, cultural understanding and youth empowerment.

Going beyond feedback and strategic recommendations, Al Qalam Director Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan challenged the student leaders to act as visionaries - urging them to help address immediate campus and local community concerns while proactively responding to emerging challenges, ultimately contributing meaningfully to the Muslim Ummah and Bangsamoro communities across Mindanao.

Anchored on Strategic Commitment 2: Engage Communities as Prophetic Leaders and Citizens (PLC) in the AdDU Fortiores 2030, the Al Qalam remains committed to mentoring young leaders, bridging student advocacy with governance, and creating safe spaces where youth-led peacebuilding can thrive.

On International Youth Day, we celebrate the billions of young people across the world, especially in ASEAN who are driving humanity forward.

While our local realities and challenges vary across borders, our core dreams unite us including inclusive education, sustainable livelihoods, climate action, and a peaceful future.

We aren't just the leaders of tomorrow—we are the humanitarian responders, innovators, and changemakers of today.

At Southeast Asian Youth for Humanity, we continue to contribute in turning our shared aspirations into compassionate and collaborative action.

For our Muslim brothers and sisters in the Senior High School Unit of Ateneo de Davao University, they gathered for an Islamic Symposium through the SALAM SHS: The Ateneo Muslim Society highlighting the theme Purity of Heart, Excellence in Character, Walking in the. Footsteps of Maryam.

They also invited Ustadz Nasroden M. Abdullah to accompany them in this time of reflection.

Please be informed that there will be no students allowed on campus on Wednesday, the 5th of August 2026, as multiple areas of the university will be utilized for the Institutional Convocation and Day of Retreat for all administrators, faculty, and staff.

Regular campus operations for students will resume the following day.
