At the Al Qalam Institute of Ateneo de Davao University, international collaboration drives our vision for regional peace and understanding. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Mitra Modarresi, Senior Programme Manager for Asia and the entire International Dialogue Centre - KAICIID team for their steadfast support over the years.

From co-hosting the 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 last 2024 in Davao City and convening ASEAN youth leaders for 𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗔𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 with the Southeast Asian Youth for Humanity - SEA Y4H in 2025 to engaging Al Qalam in the 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 happening now in Manila, our shared work continues to champion dialogue and mutual respect across Southeast Asia.

HAPPENING NOW | ASEAN Peace Education High Level Conference

Through the support of our partners from the International Dialogue Centre- KAICIID, Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of Ateneo de Davao University’s Administrators are taking part in the conference participated by over 400 peace educators from different sectors and member states of ASEAN.

Director Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan and Assistant Director Kenny Lloyd Angon will also be among the Resource Persons in the KAICIID-led Side Event on Putting Dialogue in Practice: Showcasing Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue as a Practical Approach to Peacebuilding.

Peace is not a static goal. It is an 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. In Mindanao, across the Philippines and the ASEAN region, achieving lasting peace requires a 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 that unites civil society, religious and traditional leaders, educational institutions, local government, and grassroots communities especially women, youth, Indigenous Peoples and persons with disability (PWDs).

Central to this vision is our commitment to actively engaging young people in peacebuilding. 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙬. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙞𝙣𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙚-𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮.

By giving young voices a seat at the decision-making table and equipping them with the tools of dialogue and critical thinking, we ensure that the journey toward peace is resilient and sustainable. 𝗔𝗱𝗗𝗨 𝗔𝗹 𝗤𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗠𝗨𝗛 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀

As part of a three-day learning visit to Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU), administrators and faculty members from Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (UNISMUH), Indonesia, engaged in a Learning Exchange and Dialogue hosted by the Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia on September 8, 2026 in celebration of the National Peace Consciousness Month and the 15th Founding Anniversary of the Institute.

The event provided the Indonesian delegation with an opportunity to exchange insights with Davao City’s Deputy Mayors and local Muslim religious leaders. Following a tour of the Kadayawan Tribal Village where the visitors explored the traditional houses of Davao’s 11 recognized cultural communities (six Moro ethnolinguistic groups and five Indigenous Peoples tribes), the delegation was hosted by Hon. Gabriel Nakan, Deputy Mayor for the Bangsa Maguindanaon and Chairperson of the Davao City Deputy Mayors.

Also in attendance were Hon. Sheirelle Anino, Chairperson of the Davao City Indigenous Peoples Affairs Office (DC-IPAO) and Deputy Mayor for the Bagobo-Tagabawa Tribe, and Shaykh Jamal Munib, Program Director of the Madrasah Comprehensive Development and Promotion Unit - MCDPU (MCDPU).

Discussions focused on the unique role of Deputy Mayors in local governance, the mandates of city offices serving Muslim and IP communities, and key milestones in traditional Madrasah education. The leaders also identified future areas for collaboration, including student scholarships, internships, and faculty exchange programs.

Advancing International Humanitarian Law through shared values!

As the Al Qalam Institute celebrates its 15th Founding Anniversary, we are honored to receive a special message from Ms. Megan Rock, Head of Delegation at International Committee of the Red Cross Philippines

Through our partnership with the ICRC, we have worked to advance understanding of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to various stakeholders including the academe, BARMM Parliament personnel, religious leaders and the youth.

We also highlighted IHL's correspondence with the Islamic Law of War to support meaningful dialogue among Muslim Communities especially in Mindanao and established IHL Corners in the Ateneo de Davao University and in Cotabato City.
