𝗡𝗖𝗠𝗙 𝗫𝗜 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗧𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗹 𝗤𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗸

The 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗺 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀 - 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲, through its Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution Division (PBCRD) organized the Unity Fest: The 2nd Annual PeaceTival last June 3-4, 2026 at the Annex Events Center, SM City Davao.

Spearheaded by NCMF Regional Director Arch. Sherrila Porza-Sawah, CESE and PBCRD Acting Chief Atty. Famida B. Biruar the annual gathering brought together twenty (20) government agencies and non-governmental organizations forming a One-Stop Government Peace Hub, integrating a cultural exhibit with the provision of free essential and civic services. The initiative brought government services closer to the public while promoting inclusivity by serving both Muslim and non-Muslim communities.

On the second day of the PeaceTival, the Al Qalam Institute for Islamic Identities and Dialogue in Southeast Asia of Ateneo de Davao University was invited to give a PeaceTalk presentation on 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀'𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀.

As Director Mussolini Sinsuat Lidasan Director Lidasan is in China for a Senior Research program, the Institute was represented by Assistant Director and OIC Kenny Lloyd Angon. AD Angon shared the stage with other PeaceTalk speakers including Ustadh Eisa Javier of the Philippine Ulama Supreme Council, Sister Zainab Tando (Ret. AFP) of MARIAM Org Inc. (Mariam Advocacy Network), and Ustadha Elmia S. Tahir of the Ateneo Islamic Studies Students Association under the Ateneo Islamic Studies Department.

Accompanying AD Angon were four (4) Political Science Student-Interns deployed in the Institute. The interns actively engaged with stakeholders, learned from the insightful presentations, and availed themselves of the free services at the Peace Hub—gaining firsthand experience in grassroots peacebuilding.

We at the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University are immensely proud of our alumnus, Atty. Syed Kamal Reza Sinsuat Ampatuan, on his appointment as 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

Atty. Ampatuan recently took his oath before NCMF Secretary Sabuddin N. Abdurahim, officially stepping into his vital role of representing and advocating for the aspirations and concerns of Muslim youth across the country.

During his time as an undergraduate and Law student of Ateneo de Davao University, he was a passionate student-leader, playing vital roles in the university's Muslim Student Associations (MSAs), including the SALAM - The Ateneo Muslim Society and the Ateneo Law Student-Advocates for Bangsamoro Rights.

This appointment is not just a career achievement; it is a testament to Atty. Syed's dedication, integrity, and capability. We have no doubt he will serve the Commission and the nation with honor and excellence, championing active Muslim Youth participation in peace and development, Halal Industry, Islamic Finance, preservation of religious and cultural traditions, and other initiatives for the well-being of Muslim Filipinos.

The Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University joins our friends and partners in KAICIID in the observance of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations and Portugal Day on June 10.

As a member of the Dialogue Cities Southeast Asia Network, the Al Qalam Institute also echoes KAICIID’s view that dialogue is more than talking, it is an intentional process of stepping out of comfort zones, challenging preconceptions, and creating safe spaces to build trust and lasting peace.

These align with how we engage our local stakeholders in Mindanao as they participate in meaningful dialogue especially on accompanying the Bangsamoro Peace Process, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue as well as on preventing radicalization especially among youth and engagement violent extremism.

𝗔𝗹 𝗤𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗛 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼, 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀

Last June 3-5, the Universal Islamic Center, Inc. (UIC) and its partners successfully hosted the 11th Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo 2026 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier.

Since its launch in 2015, the PHTTE has grown into a vital platform for connecting industry leaders and advancing the Philippines’ halal ecosystem. This year’s expo, anchored on the theme “Leading the ASEAN Wave: Advancing the Philippine Halal Ecosystem from Local Excellence to Global Sustainability,” highlighted the importance of ASEAN collaboration, innovation, tourism, and community development.

A delegation of the Al Qalam Institute of the Ateneo de Davao University composed of AD Kenny Lloyd Angon and four (4) Political Science Student-Interns participated on the opening day of the expo which featured opportunities for learning, networking, and partnership-building through activities such as the International Halal Trade Exhibits, halal tourism promotion, investment and trade matching, and other industry-focused programs. The expo aims to contribute in strengthening the country’s position as an emerging halal hub in the ASEAN region.

More than visiting the exhibits and trying Halal food, AD Angon and the student-interns also had the opportunity to have short but meaningful exchanges with well recognized Halal Industry advocates including Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Zamzamin Ampatuan, CESO I, Hon. Umi Yanti Silalahi,the Consul for Information, Social and Cultural Affairs of the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao City and Madame Malou Ampuan, UIC Founder and President and PHTTE Organizer.

Reflecting on the experience, Carl Rafael Ludovice, a non-Muslim and one of the AB Political Science Intern shared:
