To the leaders who once walked the halls of CAEc, today, we celebrate how far you’ve come. ❤️

Before the diplomas, the celebrations, and the moments that mark this milestone, you were students who chose to step forward—to serve, to lead, and to carry the voices of the CAEc community.

You gave your time when you could have chosen to simply be students. You showed up when things were difficult. You celebrated victories, faced challenges, made mistakes, learned, and continued to lead. And somewhere along the way, you left pieces of yourselves in the community you once served.

Today marks the closing of one chapter, but the memories you created and the people you have touched will remain long after you leave these halls.

To our former student leaders of Batch Magilas, thank you. Thank you for the years of service, the sacrifices behind the scenes, and the love you've poured into the College of Applied Economics. [𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗛𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬] This August 14, 2026 (Friday), Davao City observes Indigenous Peoples Day in relation to Kadayawan sa Davao Festival as a Special (Non-Working) Day pursuant to Proclamation No. 1372, s. 2026. The celebration honors the City’s rich cultural heritage, celebrates its bountiful harvest, and recognizes the diverse Indigenous Peoples and communities whose traditions and contributions continue to shape Davao’s identity.

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) joins the people of Davao in celebrating Kadayawan, a time to appreciate the City’s diverse cultures, traditions, and heritage. More than a celebration of abundance, Kadayawan provides an opportunity to recognize the knowledge, artistry, and traditions passed down through generations and shared among Dabawenyos and communities across the region.

As a public institution of higher learning, USeP remains committed to promoting cultural awareness, inclusivity, and respect for diverse traditions and identities. Through teaching, research, innovation, and public service, the University contributes to the preservation and appreciation of cultural heritage while empowering communities and advancing inclusive development.

With this, there will be no work and classes at USeP campuses located in Davao City on August 14, 2026 (Friday).

𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪? The word “Kadayawan” is derived from the Dabawenyo greeting “Madayaw,” which means good, valuable, or bountiful. The festival traces its roots to traditional thanksgiving celebrations for a bountiful harvest and has evolved into one of Davao City’s most prominent celebrations of culture, unity, and abundance.

May this Kadayawan remind us to celebrate the richness of our cultural heritage, honor the communities that preserve it, and give thanks for the abundance we share.

[𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦] Ms. Christine Varquez-Abines, MSc, Assistant Professor of the College of Applied Economics, has been named a recipient of the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship Award to pursue a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) in Economics at National D**g Hwa University.

Her graduate studies began in September 2025 and will run until August 2028, providing an opportunity to further strengthen her academic expertise, research capacity, and global competencies in the field of economics.

This achievement reflects the University of Southeastern Philippines' continuing commitment to faculty development, academic excellence, and internationalization through advanced studies and global academic engagement.

The USeP community proudly congratulates Ms. Varquez-Abines on this milestone and wishes her success in her academic journey.
