My third window strike this year - and I thought I solved this problem for good. This time it's another common emerald dove

This bird almost made me come out of my self-imposed (temporary?) birding retirement. It’s so ultra-difficult to spot it’s literally like finding a grain of sand in a beach. It's so rare that there is even an international task force dedicated to documenting this bird.

So, when Bob Natural documented this Spoon-Billed Sandpiper in Balanga, Bataan a few days back, the whole world took notice.

But this post is really about why mangroves should not just be planted specially in mudflats. This post is also about what can happen (or how to manage things much better?) when the new airport runway is built there…

Everett’s White Eye, a bird near-endemic to Mindanao. Taken at Maa, Davao City, Philippines

I always say, if you just leave birds alone, they won’t mind you taking as many photos of them as you want...

Rufous Paradise Flycatcher taken at Bislig, Surigao del Sur

I personally call this the “phantom of the opera” bird simply because it’ song seems to blend very well to the start of the theme d**g of the said play.

The mother of all Mindanao skulkers. Present in the higher altitude portions of Mindanao's mountains but ultra difficult to see.

It doesn't seem like it because this is a juvenile and the angle does not give justice to its features but birders consider this as among the most beautiful of Philippine birds.

It's migration time again! Migrants are not just the birds one might see in big numbers along shorelines. There are also migrant raptors, cuckoos and even small ones like this one, the Grey-Streaked Flycatcher!

I always tell everyone that if you just leave birds alone, they will thrive. Guaiaberos hang around my green makopa tree and we just let them be. This one decided to look closer at what I am doing today, giving me enough time to grab a camera and take this photo.

The Mindanao Blue Fantail

This bird appears in the cover of The Birds of Davao City, Beyond Downtown (vol. II) and is not really skittish - in places where birds are left alone.
