As the Brokenshire College Supreme Student Council (BCSSC) officially transitioned into a new administration on August 3, incoming student leaders pledged to usher in what they described as a โgolden eraโ of student leadership during the BCSSC Turnover Ceremony for Academic Year 2026โ2027.
Held at Brokenshire College, the ceremony formally transferred leadership responsibilities from the outgoing BCSSC officers to the newly elected council. College administrators, student organization leaders, faculty members, and student representatives gathered to witness the turnover rites and oath-taking of the new officers.
Opening the program, BCSSC Adviser and Student Development Services Unit Head Maria Fe P. Calis, LPT, welcomed student leaders, administrators, and guests, emphasizing the importance of responsible, service-oriented leadership within the institution.
During the program, outgoing BCSSC Prime Minister Mark Dave B. Gario presented the councilโs accomplishments, resolutions passed, and newly recognized student organizations, highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the previous administration throughout its term.
The event also featured the official turnover of governance, symbolized by the ceremonial transfer of the council key from the outgoing Prime Minister to incoming Prime Minister Matias John Mercado.

In his acceptance speech, Mercado reflected on his leadership journey from serving as an executive officer and two-term president of the Brokenshire College Psychology Society to becoming the institutionโs incoming student leader.
Holding the symbolic key of governance, Mercado emphasized that leadership is not about authority or personal recognition but about empowering others and creating opportunities for growth.
โFor some, this key may seem like a simple symbol. But to me, it represents something far greater. It carries the weight of responsibility, trust, accountability, and expectation,โ Mercado said.
He stressed that his administrationโs vision is centered on developing student leaders and strengthening organizations rather than simply conducting activities and events.
โOur vision is clear: to usher in a golden era of student leadership,โ he declared.
Mercado further emphasized that the councilโs success would not be measured by the number of programs conducted but by the number of leaders developed, organizations strengthened, and students served.
Building on this vision, Mercado shared that one of the administrationโs primary goals is to capacitate student leaders and empower organizations to reach their fullest potential. He added that the BCSSC aims to cultivate a culture of excellence, collaboration, and servant leadership among student organizations across the institution.
He challenged fellow officers and organization presidents to pursue excellence, promising to help cultivate stronger and more effective leaders within the institution.
โI will challenge you. I will demand excellence from you. I will push you beyond what you think you can accomplishโnot because I doubt your abilities, but because I believe in your potential,โ Mercado stated.
The incoming Prime Minister also expressed his desire for the council to leave behind stronger systems, empowered organizations, and a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit students beyond the administrationโs ten-month term.

College President Bp. Hamuel G. Tequis, MDiv, PhD (H.C.), delivered an inspirational message encouraging the newly elected officers to lead with integrity, responsibility, and commitment to service.
Following the turnover rites, the newly elected BCSSC officers took their oath of office, administered by College Chaplain Rev. Dr. Grace A. Bangisan.
Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services Dr. Felix C. Chavez Jr. later delivered the charge to the new officers, reminding them that leadership is both a privilege and a responsibility that requires dedication to the welfare of the student body.
As the new administration officially begins its term, BCSSC leaders expressed their commitment to student-centered governance, leadership development, and meaningful engagement with the Brokenshire community.
โI am not here to elevate myself. I am here to elevate those around me,โ Mercado emphasized.
With the formal turnover completed, the newly elected officers now assume the responsibility of representing the student body and advancing the councilโs vision of service, leadership, and excellence under the banner of Fides. Scientia. Virtus.
