On August 13, 2026, the 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 (UPMin QAO) joined the Freshie Orientation and welcomed our newest Iskolars ng Bayan!

Led by its Director, Prof. Ritchie Mae T. Gamot, PhD, the UPMin QAO introduced the services offered by the office and shared how QAO helps uphold and continuously improve the quality of education at UP Mindanao.

Alongside the services and information shared, the QAO team also showed our Freshies that achieving quality doesn’t always have to be serious—it can be fun, too! ✨ With QAO merch and BINI merch in tow, we brought some quality with good vibes to the Freshie experience, making their first steps into college a little more memorable. 🤩

Because at UPMin QAO, we believe that in the pursuit of quality, there’s always room for a little fun along the way! And this time, our Freshies definitely got their very own 𝓑𝓛∞𝓜 moment. 🌸

As part of UP Mindanao’s continuing commitment to quality and excellence, the Quality Assurance Office (QAO) conducted the Internal Auditors’ Debriefing sessions on June 23 and August 7, 2026. The sessions provided an avenue for internal auditors to consolidate audit observations, exchange insights, and identify opportunities to further strengthen the University’s Quality Management System (QMS).

Following the completion of Internal Audit Batches 1 and 2, the debriefings emphasized that internal auditing goes beyond compliance. Through reflection, collaboration, and shared learning, the sessions helped translate audit observations into meaningful opportunities to improve institutional processes, systems, and practices.

As UP Mindanao prepares for the External Surveillance Audit on November 12–13, 2026, the debriefing sessions reinforce the collective responsibility of internal auditors and the University community in sustaining quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao marks another milestone in its continuing pursuit of quality and excellence with the successful completion of Internal Audit Batch 2 for its Administrative, Academic, Research, and Extension Offices, held on August 4–6, 2026.

A total of 14 offices were audited during the three-day Internal Audit for Batch 2, bringing the total number of offices audited this year to 31 following the successful completion of Internal Audit Batch 1 in May 2026. This milestone reaffirms the University’s commitment to upholding the standards of its Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

More than a measure of compliance, the Internal Audit is an important part of UP Mindanao's continuous improvement journey. It provides an avenue to assess processes, evaluate the effectiveness of implemented procedures, identify opportunities for improvement, and strengthen systems that support efficient, responsive, and quality-driven university operations.

With this milestone, UP Mindanao takes another significant step toward the External Surveillance Audit on November 12–13, 2026. Building on the gains from the 2026 Internal Audit activities, the University remains steadfast in sustaining its QMS and strengthening its systems in support of its mandates in education, research, extension, administration, and public service.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao successfully concluded the 𝟱𝟬𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸-𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗨𝗡-𝗤𝗔) 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 on July 23, 2026, marking the successful completion of the three-day international external review process conducted from July 21–23, 2026.

The assessment covered UP Mindanao’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics (BSAM) and Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media Arts (BACMA) programs, representing another remarkable milestone in the University’s journey toward academic excellence and its unwavering commitment to achieving globally recognized quality standards in higher education.

Bachelor of Arts in Communication & Media Arts UP Mindanao (BACMA) made history as the first degree program from the Department of Humanities, UP Mindanao and College of Humanities and Social Sciences - UP Mindanao (CHSS) to undergo an AUN-QA Programme Assessment, highlighting the Department and College’s commitment to enhancing the quality and global relevance of its academic programs.

Meanwhile, Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics (BSAM) became the third degree program from the College of Science and Mathematics - UP Mindanao (CSM) and the second from the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science (DMPCS) DMPCS - University of the Philippines Mindanao to be assessed by AUN-QA, further demonstrating the University’s progress in building a culture of quality assurance across its academic units.

With the inclusion of BSAM and BACMA, UP Mindanao has now successfully brought four of its degree programs through the AUN-QA Programme Assessment, following the AUN-QA certification of the BS Computer Science and BS Biology programs in 2024. This achievement reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to advancing academic quality, continuously strengthening its degree programs through internationally recognized assessment processes, and promoting a culture of excellence aligned with global standards in higher education.

Aside from UP Mindanao, the 504th ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Programme Assessment also covered two academic programs from the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman): the Bachelor of Science in Biology and the Bachelor of Science in Family Life and Child Development. The participation of UP Diliman and UP Mindanao, representing the northern and southern regions of the Philippines, respectively, reflects the University of the Philippines System’s collective commitment to advancing academic excellence and strengthening degree programs through internationally recognized quality assurance processes.

During the Closing Session, the AUN-QA Assessor Team presented its preliminary findings, grounded in the AUN-QA framework that guided the assessment of the four academic programs from UP Mindanao and UP Diliman, and provided observations and recommendations to support their continuing quality improvement.

As UP Mindanao continues to expand the number of its internationally certified academic programs, the University takes pride in these achievements and remains steadfast in fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in service of its students, communities, and the nation.

This activity is part of the University’s continuing commitment to strengthen awareness and understanding of the Quality Management System in line with the ISO 9001:2015 standard. More so, the orientation is designed to help newly hired personnel and newly appointed heads in the administrative, academic, research, and extension units familiarize themselves with their respective roles and responsibilities in ensuring compliance with QMS requirements, promoting efficiency in service delivery, and contributing to the institution’s overall quality objectives.

The recent earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao on June 8, 2026, affected several areas, with General Santos being among those significantly impacted. One of those affected is our colleague from the Quality Assurance Office, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗥𝗶𝗻𝘇 𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗕. 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘀.

As a result of the earthquake, their home has been deemed unsafe for occupancy, leaving the family to cope with the challenges of recovery. In light of this situation, we humbly seek your support and kindness through any form of financial assistance or donation that you may be able to extend.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao joined the UP System Quality Assurance Conference 2026 held on June 8-9, 2026, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

A 30-member delegation from the university, led by Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao, represented the university. The delegation included Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Maria Stella R. Salazar, Vice Chancellor for Administration Leo Manuel B. Estaña, QAO Director Ritchie Mae T. Gamot, deans, department chairs, program coordinators, quality assurance officers, and external quality reviewers from various academic units.

The conference was organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs with the theme, “Quality as Duty, Excellence as Legacy: Forging the Future of UP as the National University.” It gathered leaders and quality assurance professionals from across the UP System to discuss current developments and best practices in higher education quality assurance.

Participants took part in plenary sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and collaborative learning activities. Key topics included quality assurance frameworks, artificial intelligence in higher education, leadership and governance, and strategies for continuous improvement.

The conference also provided opportunities for sharing experiences and learning from experts and peers across the UP System. These exchanges helped identify ways to further strengthen quality assurance practices in each constituent university.

UP Mindanao’s participation highlights its commitment to quality teaching, research, creative work, and public service, in line with the UP System’s goal of sustained excellence as the National University.
