LOOK | USAPANG GAD SERIES: Building a Gender-Responsive Campus, One Conversation at a Time

The UP Mindanao Gender and Development (GAD) Office officially launched the “Usapang GAD Series” through its first sectoral consultation with the All UP Academic Employees Union (AUPAEU) on 8 July 2026. The activity provided a space for open and meaningful dialogue on gender-related concerns, priorities, and possible actions to strengthen gender-responsive policies, programs, and services within the University.

Discussions focused on creating a safer, more inclusive, and supportive campus environment. Key concerns and recommendations included institutionalizing the use of lived names, developing accessible GAD resource materials, strengthening mechanisms for reporting and addressing sexual harassment and gender-based violence, and expanding mental health and wellness initiatives.

Participants also emphasized the need to enhance support services for employees, improve gender-inclusive facilities, and establish a network of unit-based GAD advocates who can help promote gender responsiveness across academic and administrative units.

The consultation marked the beginning of a continuing series of conversations with various sectors of the University. Through the Usapang GAD Series, the GAD Office and AUPAEU reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing gender equality, inclusion, safety, and well-being throughout the UP Mindanao community.
