As part of the international academic and cultural exchange experience of the delegates from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Indonesia, at Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), they paid courtesy visits to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Davao City and the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHEDRO XI) on September 21, 2026.
The courtesy visit to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia provided the UMY delegates with an opportunity to formally meet Consul General Agus Trenggono, Consul for Immigration Affairs Sarsaralos Sivakkar, and Consul for Information, Social, and Cultural Affairs (Pensosbud) Johannes Manginsela. The engagement also provided an opportunity for the delegates to learn more about the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and the Philippines and highlighted the importance of strengthening educational, cultural, and people to people connections between the two countries.
The delegates likewise paid a courtesy visit to CHEDRO XI, where they were welcomed by Dr. Evelyn S. Ecle, Education Supervisor II and Focal Person for Internationalization of CHEDRO XI. The visit served as an avenue for meaningful interaction and learning about the Philippine higher education sector, particularly initiatives related to internationalization, academic mobility, and institutional partnerships.
The delegates were accompanied by Ms. Sheryl J. Urdaneta, Head of the Center for Internationalization, together with Ms. Jea T. Piencenaves, Coordinator for Mobility and Partnerships. They were also joined by their buddies from the International Student and Culture Club (ISACC), who supported and accompanied the delegates throughout the visits.
The courtesy visits to the Indonesian Consulate General and CHEDRO XI marked another meaningful chapter in the UMY delegates’ stay in Davao, creating opportunities for dialogue, cultural exchange, and stronger connections among students, educators, and institutions across Indonesia and the Philippines. These engagements contributed to advancing SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by strengthening cross-border academic collaboration, global citizenship, and international student mobility. Furthermore, they supported SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by developing cross-cultural skills that boost graduate employability, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through collaborative knowledge-sharing and educational innovation, SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by broadening access to international academic opportunities, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by deepening diplomatic ties and institutional cooperation across the ASEAN region.
