Today, my daughter brought me to eat at Grateful Bread, and what a pleasant surprise it was to see one of my former high school students working there as a sous chef!

He greeted me warmly and, although he was busy preparing food, took a moment to chat with me. I couldn’t help but feel so proud of his achievement, especially when he told me that he is doing what he loves.

As a teacher, there is no greater joy than seeing your former students grow, succeed, and find their passion. ❤️

💡Describe the scene.

We look at an image that has lots of things going on. Ask the student to describe the scene. If they have a low level of English, they might simply say, “Woman shopping. Dog running.” If their level is a bit higher, they might have fun saying, “Woman talk on phone. Woman hits man’s head.”

The Department of Education (DepEd) is implementing major reforms for School Year 2026–2027, outlined in DepEd Orders.

✅1. Three-Term School

CalendarStarting this school year, DepEd is transitioning from the old quarterly system to a trimestral schedule.School Year: Classes run from June 8, 2026, to April 8, 2027, covering 201 class days. The Three Terms: The year is split into uninterrupted instructional blocks (Term 1: June 15–Sept 1; Term 2: Sept 16–Dec 4; Term 3: Jan 4–March 23).End-of-Term Blocks: After every term, a dedicated break period is set aside for grade computation, report card distribution, and wellness breaks for teachers and learners.

✅2. Cellphone Prohibition (DepEd

Order No. 006, s. 2026)The use of cellphones and other portable electronic devices is strictly prohibited for both learners and personnel during instructional periods. The policy aims to minimize distractions and preserve the integrity of the learning environment.

✅3. Revised Grading System & Honors

Grade Transmutation: The agency is overhauling the fixed transmutation system to encourage more precise academic assessment.Honor Cutoffs: Stricter grade requirements (e.g., proposals to require a 95 average for honors without transmutation) are being rolled out to ensure accurate and transparent student performance tracking.

✅4. Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum

The pilot implementation of the updated Grade 12 SHS curriculum is underway, signaling ongoing refinements rather than any phase-out of the K to 12 program.

✅5. Other Key Initiatives

No Collection Policy: DepEd has implemented strict orders prohibiting voluntary fee collections in public schools to ease financial burdens on teachers and parents.

Brigada Eskuela Focus: Brigada Eskuela efforts are highly directed at preparing school infrastructure and launching targeted literacy and learning recovery programs.
