𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗢 𝗗𝗘 𝗭𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗢𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬

Ateneo de Davao University stands in grief and solidarity with Ateneo de Zamboanga University following the violence that struck their community.

We mourn those whose lives were lost. We pray for those who were injured, for the families of all those affected, and for the entire AdZU community.

We strongly condemn gun violence. There is no place for guns and armed violence in our schools and communities. A firearm must never become an answer to anger, conflict, grievance, or despair. We must reject any normalization of guns and violence in the lives of our young people.

Our schools must be places where human life is protected and where students can learn without fear. This tragedy reminds us that protecting these spaces requires not only prayer and solidarity but also vigilance, responsibility, and concrete action.

No to gun violence. No to weapons in our schools. No to the normalization of violence.

To our brothers and sisters at Ateneo de Zamboanga University: you are not alone. The Ateneo de Davao community stands with you in grief, prayer, and solidarity.

Today, we commemorate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, honoring the sanctity of her earthly passage and celebrating her glorious assumption into heaven.

May this sacred feast inspire us to live with profound care, steadfast hope, and willful trust in our one and holy God, echoing her unwavering faith in His promises. May her journey remind us that, through grace and faith, He will guide us toward eternal life.

NH: Ateneans gather in praise and worship as cluster bands and dancers enliven the spirit of faith and hope in this year’s Jam in Faith, held as part of the 78th University Fiesta celebrations.

ICYMI: Opening the 78th Ateneo Fiesta, Ateneans gathered at the Our Lady of Assumption Chapel to witness the blessing of the new Our Lady of the Assumption Statue, which reflects Mary’s enduring presence in the Atenean community and the values of faith, hope, and service she inspires.

Following the blessing of the new statue, Ateneans are invited to attend the Eucharistic Celebration at 4F Martin Hall.

For generations, the soil, rivers, and forests of indigenous lands have sustained life. Yet today, these ancestral domains are treated as mere commodities for state-driven exploitation.

Even after the annual International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples every August 9, Indigenous groups across the Philippines remain under siege from land-use conversion, militarization, and state-led intimidation—an ongoing reality left unaddressed during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s recent State of the Nation Address (SONA), which reduced their plight to an afterthought of the national agenda.

To defend ancestral domains is to defend life itself. As environmental degradation deepens, the resistance of indigenous defenders stands as our primary bulwark against ecological devastation and historical erasure.

Atenews stands firm with all indigenous communities in demanding an immediate halt to state-sponsored plunder, rejecting forced displacement, and upholding the right to self-determination.

ANNOUNCEMENT: In celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, the regular uniform requirement will be lifted on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Students may wear civilian attire, provided it complies with the University’s revised dress code.
