The University of the Philippines Mindanao, through the Office of Student Affairs and in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), successfully concluded the two-day Job Fair Program 2026: Bridging the Gap from University to Workplace. The event served as a platform for students and graduates to gain valuable knowledge, build professional connections, and explore opportunities that will help them transition from academic life to the world of work.

The first day featured a ๐๐ซ๐ž-๐„๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐Ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐’๐ž๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐š๐ซ held at Lorenzo Hall, Administration Building, where participants learned from distinguished industry professionals. Ms. Mary Rose Ofianga, MM, Business Coach and Program Manager of the Wadhwani Foundation Entrepreneurship Program, shared insights on Understanding the Job Market, Application Process, and Acing the Interview, equipping participants with practical strategies for navigating today's competitive employment landscape. Meanwhile, Ms. Sharon L. Binwag-Villalon, Director of Human Resources and People Support of Dole Philippines, Inc. โ€“ Stanfilco Division, delivered an engaging discussion on The Right Fit: Things to Consider When Looking for a Job, encouraging students to make career decisions that align with their values, strengths, aspirations, and overall well-being. Lastly, Mr. Felix Te Fabian, CPA, Consultant of Fabian and Associates, CPA, discussed Practical Financial Literacy, emphasizing the importance of sound financial management, responsible decision-making, and long-term financial stability for young professionals.

The second day transformed learning into action through the ๐‚๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐‰๐จ๐› ๐…๐š๐ข๐ซ held at the Atrium, Mini-Theater, and CHSS Rooms. A total of 26 companies and industry partners participated in the recruitment event, providing students, interns, and graduates with direct access to employment opportunities across various sectors. Participants were able to engage with recruiters, submit applications, and undergo interviews, bringing them one step closer to their professional goals.

To further support employment readiness, a ๐Ž๐ง๐ž-๐’๐ญ๐จ๐ฉ ๐’๐ก๐จ๐ฉ was made available through the participation of PhilHealth, SSS , and Pag-IBIG, allowing attendees to access information and services related to their government membership and pre-employment requirements. The successful implementation of the Job Fair was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the University and its co-organizer, Public Employment Service Office (PESO), whose continued partnership helps connect aspiring professionals with meaningful career opportunities.

As we celebrate the success of this year's Job Fair, we extend our sincere gratitude to our resource speakers, participating companies, government partners, PESO, and everyone who contributed to making the event a meaningful and impactful experience. Most importantly, we congratulate our students and graduates for taking active steps toward their future careers. The bridge has been builtโ€”now it is time to confidently cross it and thrive in the opportunities that lie ahead.

Pag-amuma sa Kaugalingon, Komunidad ug Kinaiyahan: A UP Mindanao Offering

In light of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Sarangani and its surrounding areas earlier this morning, June 8, 2026, the Office of Student Development Services (OSDS) extends its concern to all members of our University and their communities who may be affected.

As of the latest PHIVOLCS updates, aftershocks may persist for several days to weeks, and some may be felt in nearby provinces. We encourage everyone to prioritize safety and to monitor official PHIVOLCS advisories and local government announcements.

In line with this, the OSDS is re-opening its Student Incident Report Form to help gather information on the situations of students in UP Mindanao. You may access the report form through this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8Jd6OgF7uh7EpyXcQjhVvrZR1cYDTy3h0AgN1ykZpqjOZSQ/viewform

๐Ÿ“ข Stay Steady, Stay Calm: Quick Techniques to Manage Anxiety After the Earthquake ๐Ÿ“ข

Hi, Isko and Iska!

We know things are incredibly scary right now after that strong earthquake. It is natural to experience fear, uncertainty, or anxiety, and for your body to react with symptoms such as a racing heart, dizziness, trembling, or difficulty concentrating.

Here are five evidence-based techniques to help you stabilize and find your center during this difficult time:

1. The "54321" Five Senses Grounding Technique

When your mind feels overwhelmed or disconnected, use your senses to reconnect with the present moment.

The Technique: Look around you and slowly acknowledge:

๐Ÿ‘€ 5 things you can SEE
โœ‹ 4 things you can TOUCH
๐Ÿ‘‚ 3 things you can HEAR
๐Ÿ‘ƒ 2 things you can SMELL
๐Ÿ˜‹ 1 thing you can TASTE (or one positive thought about your ability to cope)

The Goal: Ground yourself in the present and reduce overwhelming emotions.

2. The "Stabilizing Breath" (Diaphragmatic Breathing)

Fear and anxiety often cause shallow, rapid breathing.

The Technique: Place one hand on your abdomen. Slowly inhale for about 3 seconds, then slowly exhale for 3โ€“4 seconds. Repeat several times.

The Goal: Activate your body's relaxation response and reduce physical symptoms of anxiety.

3. "Feeling the Actual" (Presence Exercise)

If your thoughts are racing with worries and "what ifs," gently bring yourself back to the present.

The Technique: Close your eyes and state exactly what you are aware of at this moment, beginning each statement with "Now" or "At this moment."

Example:

"Now I am feeling the floor beneath me."
"Now I am aware of my breathing."
"At this moment, I am safe."

The Goal: Shift your attention from fear about the future to what is actually happening right now.

4. Use Positive and Coping Self-Talk

The way we talk to ourselves influences how we feel.

The Technique: Replace catastrophic thoughts with compassionate and realistic statements.

Instead of:
โŒ "I can't handle this."

Try:
โœ… "One step at a time; I can handle this."
โœ… "This feeling will pass."
โœ… "My body is reacting to stress, and I can help it calm down."

5. "Tense and Release" (Mini-Muscle Relaxation)

Stress is often stored in our muscles.

The Technique: Tighten your arm, shoulder, or hand muscles for 5 seconds, then suddenly release them.

The Goal: Notice the difference between tension and relaxation and help your body release built-up stress.

๐Ÿ’š Remember: Feeling anxious, scared, or unsettled after an earthquake is a normal response to an abnormal event. Be patient with yourself and reach out to others for support.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao, through the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), formally strengthened its commitment to academic collaboration and institutional partnership through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with Holy Cross College of Calinan on May 15, 2026, and Assumption College of Davao on May 26, 2026.

The MOU establishes a framework for cooperation among the institutions in areas of research, extension services, teaching and learning initiatives, student development programs, internship and practicum opportunities, knowledge sharing, and other mutually beneficial academic endeavors.

The partnership also serves as a platform for future collaborative projects that promote innovation, capacity-building, community engagement, and the advancement of higher education in Mindanao. Through these agreements, the institutions affirm their shared commitment to nurturing meaningful academic linkages and creating opportunities that contribute to student growth, institutional development, and community impact.

UP Mindanao looks forward to working closely with its partner institutions in fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and service for the benefit of students, educators, and the communities they serve.
