Tomorrow, September 10, 2026, the NAGKAISA Labor Coalition – Mindanao will hold a press conference at Paternos Roxas St., Davao City, starting at 10:00 AM.

The press conference will highlight the signing of the Covenant of Mindanao Trade Unions, a collective commitment of trade union organizations across Mindanao to advance peace, justice, democracy, and workers’ rights, while expressing support for the Bangsamoro Peace Process.

Through this covenant, Mindanao trade unions reaffirm their commitment to contribute to efforts that promote inclusive and lasting peace, uphold social justice and democratic values, and strengthen solidarity among workers and communities in the pursuit of a just and peaceful Mindanao.

The activity will also provide an opportunity to share the trade unions’ common position and commitments on issues affecting workers, communities, and the broader peace-building process in Mindanao.

Workers can no longer afford delays while the cost of living continues to rise. Every day without meaningful wage increases is another day of hardship for Filipino workers and their families.

Employers Have Found a New Way to Cut Wages: Run to Court

The fight against the β‚±85 daily wage increase has exposed a disturbing new business strategy. Instead of paying workers the modest wage increase they have lawfully won, some employers would rather spend money on lawyers to delay paying their employees.

If this tactic succeeds, it will not end with the β‚±85 wage hike. It will become the playbook against every future wage increase: lose before the wage board, run to court, delay implementation, and force workers to wait while their families continue to struggle with soaring prices. Justice delayed is wages denied.

β€œEmployers are trying to establish a dangerous precedentβ€”that every wage increase can be delayed in court until workers give up or simply learn to live without it. We cannot allow litigation to become a business strategy for avoiding lawful wages,” said Josua Mata, Secretary General of SENTRO.

What makes this even more outrageous is that some of these employers continue to benefit from government projects funded by taxpayers. The government cannot reward companies with billions of pesos in public contracts while they use the courts to deny workers lawful wage increases. Public funds must never subsidize anti-worker behavior.

*For these reasons, SENTRO fully supports Akbayan’s resolution calling for a congressional inquiry into the TRO issued against NCR Wage Order No. 27*. Congress must determine whether litigation is becoming a new weapon against workers’ wages, whether companies receiving government contracts should continue to enjoy public funds while attacking workers’ rights, and what legislative reforms are needed to prevent employers from turning every wage increase into a prolonged court battle.

SENTRO likewise calls on the Department of Labor and Employment and the Office of the Solicitor General to exhaust every legal remedy to immediately lift the TRO and ensure the prompt implementation of the β‚±85 wage increase. Workers cannot be made to shoulder the cost of endless litigation.

But lifting the TRO is only the first step. Congress must end this cycle once and for all by enacting a β‚±200 National Legislated Minimum Wage and fundamentally transforming the country’s failed wage-fixing mechanism. The outdated regional wage board system has repeatedly failed to deliver timely and meaningful wage justice and has proven vulnerable to abuse through litigation. It is time to abolish the regional wage boards and replace them with a national wage-setting system that guarantees equal protection and a decent minimum wage for every worker, regardless of where they work.

β€œWorkers should never have to win the same wage increase twiceβ€”first before the wage board, then again in court. Lift the TRO. Pass the β‚±200 National Legislated Minimum Wage. End a wage-fixing system that has become too easy for anti-worker employers to exploit,” Mata said.

Last August 4, 2026, the Union (NMLDCC-SCM-FCCU) commenced the formal hearing and discussion of Notice of Strike filed due to a Collective Bargaining Deadlock after management maintained its position against the union's key proposals.

These include the union's right to the following:

- participate in the implementation of new technology
- equal health and hospitalization benefits
- standardized per-trip allowances for all logistics workers.

The union stands firm in advocating for fair treatment, meaningful participation, and equitable benefits for all members. Solidarity remains our strength as we continue to pursue a just and fair Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Today, August 4, 2026, SENTRO Davao, together with civil society organizations , gather to welcome the GPH-M**F peace implementing panels.

This meeting between the Philippine Government and the M**F Peace Implementing Panels in Davao is a timely step toward restoring confidence in the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB).

We call on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to sincerely uphold government's commitment to the peace process.

Lasting peace depends on dialogue, trust, and honoring the commitments that have brought the Bangsamoro this far.
