FEATURED GULAYAN SA TUGKARAN ⎢ Grade 11-Diligence Elevates School Garden Project with Community Support

On December 8, 2023, the students of Grade 11-Diligence embarked on a commendable initiative to enhance their Gulayan sa Tugkaran garden, transforming it into an exemplary model of community and environmental stewardship. Spearheaded by their dedicated class adviser, Maam Myrvic A. Lumantao, the students went above and beyond by engaging various community partners to realize their vision.

A pivotal figure in this collaborative effort was the homeroom PTA president, Mr. Joel S. Palabrica, whose full support was instrumental in securing essential organic materials. The class acquired 33 sacks of chicken dung mixed with rice hulls from a local poultry farm in Sitio Maligatong, Tawantawan. These materials were invaluable as soil conditioners, enriching the garden's fertility and promoting sustainable agriculture.

The parents of Grade 11-Diligence students also played a significant role, generously contributing their time and labor to bring the project to fruition. Their collective efforts ensured that the garden, aptly named "The Tranquility Garden," progressed smoothly towards its goals.

Further bolstering the project, the Department of Agriculture donated vermicasts and seeds, vital components for the organic garden. These contributions underscored the importance of using natural, sustainable inputs to cultivate healthy crops and demonstrated a successful collaboration between the school and the community.

The transformation of The Tranquility Garden stands as a testament to what can be achieved when community members unite with a common purpose. The initiative not only provided a hands-on educational experience for the students but also promoted the benefits of organic farming practices, fostering a greater appreciation for environmental sustainability within the community.

This eco-friendly initiative utilized bamboo to create the vertical structure, showcasing a blend of creativity and sustainability.

The young environmentalists demonstrated their commitment to recycling by using empty plastic bottles from soft drinks and distilled water as pots for their lettuce and spinach seedlings. The soil mixture, a rich blend of fertile soil, rice hulls, and animal manure from the school's pig pen, provided the perfect growing medium. This project not only maximized the use of space but also exemplified the school's dedication to sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.
