By: Ms. Ruth E. Chew

The AdDU SBG administrators, faculty, and staff, led by our Dean, Dr. Margie J. Clavano, CPA, Margie Joyno, participated in the International Study Visit program of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office from May 24 to 31, 2026.

Cultural.
The ISV program immersed the AdDU SBG Community in South Korea's rich culture, visiting iconic and sacred sites in Seoul, learning basic Korean greetings, trying on a Hanbok, and tasting various Korean dishes.

Academic.
Three higher education institutions warmly welcomed the AdDU SBG Community: Kyung Hee University, Yonsei University, and Sogang University, the only Jesuit School in South Korea. The visits, filled with meaningful dialogues and sharing of best and sustainable practices, sparked collaborative opportunities for the AdDU SBG Community, including faculty and student exchanges, postgraduate scholarships, research, educational tours, and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

Technology Company and Korea Exchange (KRX) Visits.
A wow experience for AdDU SBG at the Samsung Innovation Museum and Goyang Hyundai Motors Studio. These leading companies showed how technology drove change, innovation, and creativity. The KRX demonstrated the stock trading now and then, and shared that it was the first time during the visit that tourists witnessed the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) at 8,047.51, a good indicator for the South Korean economy.

Philippine Embassy in Seoul.
The cordial reception by Her Excellency Bernadette Therese C. Fernandez and her team at the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines, Seoul, Republic of Korea, led to a heartfelt appreciation for the work of our leaders in public service, and an invitation to continue being partners in mission, to be persons for and with others, and to engage in intentional actions for the common good.

The AdDU SBG Community is grateful to Ateneo de Davao University for the opportunity to strengthen linkages, enhance curriculum design, and make our programs and course offerings more relevant, up-to-date, and innovative. Gamsahamnida! AMDG.

International Study Visit, Osaka, Japan [February 2026]
By: Mr. Gene Leo Jesuro

Accountancy students from the School of Business and Governance (SBG) of Ateneo de Davao University recently participated in the International Study Visit (ISV) to Osaka, Japan, a flagship academic mobility program of the International Business and Trade course that brings classroom learning into real-world global contexts.

The program enabled students to deepen their understanding of international business and trade through exposure to global institutions, industry practices, and cross-cultural environments. Throughout the visit, students engaged in a mix of academic, industry, and cultural experiences that demonstrated how economic principles are applied beyond the classroom.

As part of their academic engagement, students visited universities such as the International Buddhist University, opening opportunities for future collaboration in business and entrepreneurship. They also gained valuable insights into financial systems through exposure to institutions such as the Osaka Stock Exchange.

Complementing these were visits to leading companies and innovation spaces, including the Meiji Chocolate Factory, Shimano Bicycle Museum, and the Cup Noodles Museum, where students observed how Japanese firms integrate quality, creativity, and global competitiveness in their operations.

True to the Universityโ€™s identity as Catholic and Jesuit, a salient feature of the program was the intentional integration of formation throughout the entire ISV experience. Prior to departure, students participated in a formation session on the Examen and reflective journaling, equipping them with tools for prayerful reflection. During the trip, they practiced the daily Examen, allowing them to pause, reflect, and make meaning of their experiences each day. This was complemented by a post-trip recollection, which focused on gathering the fruits of their journey to integrate their academic insights, cultural encounters, and personal growth into a deeper understanding of themselves and their vocation as future professionals.

Beyond academic learning, the ISV became a space for personal growth and formation. Immersed in a culture marked by discipline, efficiency, and respect, students reflected on their values, leadership identity, and their role as future professionals in a globalized world.

The program was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the School of Business and Governance, the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office, the Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office, and the FPT Japan Academy. It reflects SBGโ€™s commitment to providing transformative learning experiences that integrate academic excellence with global exposure and formation.

As SBG continues to expand its internationalization initiatives, the Osaka ISV 2026 stands as a testament to the value of learning beyond borders in preparing students not only to understand global markets, but to engage them with competence, responsibility, and purpose.
