Happy Eid Mubarak! Let's commemorate Eid al-Adha, a Muslim holiday that commemorates the culmination of the yearly Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and recalls the instance in which Allah stepped in and provided a ram rather than Ibrahim's son as a sacrifice. In Islam, this holiday is the second most significant celebration. It also symbolizes the steadfast devotion and fortitude of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) in obeying Allah despite having to make the painful choice to sacrifice his son.
This act by Ibrahim represents faith, selflessness, and submission. Ritual sacrifice involves the use of livestock (a sheep, goat, or cow); this practice is not intended to atone for the sins of the many, but rather to represent the physical release from our world.
