During the 2026 Annual Peacebuilding Training, MPI welcomed 16 Filipino peacebuilders and mediators supported by the New Zealand Embassy to strengthen their leadership and peacebuilding capacities. The participants include indigenous youth leaders from the Ilantungên Manobo and Talaandig communities, staff from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), academics, women leaders from conflict-affected areas like Sulu, and faith leaders.

At MPI, we share the New Zealand Embassy's commitment to fostering local leadership and supporting grassroots initiatives that advance peace and meaningful change.

𝑹𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒔𝒕. 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝑭𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑷𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒆. 🕊️

Around the world, growing geopolitical tensions have led to continued increases in military spending, even as millions of people face persistent challenges such as food insecurity, inadequate access to education and healthcare, unemployment, and other conditions that threaten human dignity.

As we mark the , we are reminded that peace is not simply the absence of war or armed violence; it is also about addressing the conditions that allow injustice, inequality, and insecurity to persist, so that every person can live with dignity, security, and hope.

Today, we also remember the victims, survivors, and families whose lives were deeply affected by Martial Law in the Philippines. Their experiences remind us of our shared responsibility to protect human rights, uphold fundamental freedoms, and safeguard the democratic institutions that help ensure justice and dignity for all. ☮️⚖️

On this day of peace and remembrance, may we draw from the lessons of our history and continue the work of building a future grounded in peace, justice, human dignity, and hope.

𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦?

In her recent article, “Guardians of Harmony: Acknowledging the Role of Mothers as Peacebuilders,” MPI alumna Dr. Sudhansubala Sahu reflects on the often-unrecognised ways mothers contribute to peace, through care, mediation, resilience, and the everyday work of holding families and communities together.

Her reflections were shaped in part by her participation in MPI’s 2026 Annual Peacebuilding Training field-based course: Culture, Arts, and Indigenous Wisdom in Practice held within the ancestral domain of the Talaandig Tribe in Bukidnon Province, Mindanao. Her time with the Talaandig community offered a powerful confirmation of something she had already felt that mothers and women are not simply affected by conflict, but are active peacebuilders in their families and communities.

We are grateful to see learning from our courses continue to spark reflection and dialogue beyond the training.

This September, MPI joins in celebrating the 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 with the official theme: “𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐠𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧, 𝐊𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧” (Strengthen Peace, Intensify Progress).

True progress and sustainable development are only possible when rooted in justice, healing, and lasting peace. For over two decades, MPI has trained and empowered peacebuilders across Mindanao, Southeast Asia, and around the world. We believe building peace is a collective journey that starts with education, dialogue, and mutual understanding.

As we honor historical milestones of peace in our communities this month, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing the next generation of peace catalysts.
