On this International Day for Biological Diversity, we celebrate our mangrove forests — vital ecosystems teeming with life; they serve as nurseries, shelters, and lifelines for biodiversity both above and below the water.

As this year’s theme reminds us, “Acting Locally for Global Impact,” protecting and restoring mangroves is one of the strongest local actions we can take for our planet. These forests not only sustain biodiversity, but also store carbon, protect coastal communities, and strengthen climate resilience.

One concrete way we can help is by advocating for the passage of the National Coastal Greenbelt Act; a crucial step toward securing the future of our coastal ecosystems and the life they sustain.

CLASS AND WORK SUSPENSION ADVISORY

In compliance with the announcement of the City Government of Davao, face-to-face classes and school activities in all levels are suspended today, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, due to flooding incidents caused by heavy rainfall brought by the Easterlies and ITCZ.

This suspension is intended to give way to clearing operations and to ensure the safety and welfare of students, personnel, and affected communities.

Hospital operations shall remain in service.

Everyone is advised to stay safe, avoid flooded areas, and monitor official announcements for further updates.

The College of Biology proudly took part in DMSFI's annual 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐚𝐲, joining the community in celebrating diversity through culture, tradition, and food.

This year, we immersed ourselves in the vibrant world of the 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐨 people, the People of the Lake. Our booth was a full celebration of their heritage, from its Maranao-inspired design adorned with bold patterns and rich colors, to the authentic flavors that brought their culinary tradition to the table. Our representatives completed the experience, dressed in gold and yellow costumes embodying royalty and grace, adorned with feathered headpieces inspired by the Sarimanok, and draped in intricate beadwork, gold embroidery, and flowing tassels. Every element, seen and felt, was a testament to the artistry, pride, and enduring legacy of Mindanao.

We are deeply grateful to have been recognized with the 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝, a reminder that diversity is not just seen, but deeply valued, and that unity thrives in the spaces where differences are honored.
