The Diaphragm is a part of the primary inspiratory muscles. It is a double-domed musculotendinous sheet of internal skeletal muscle located in the inferior-most aspect of the rib cage. Each of your lungs contains about 300 million balloon-like structures called the 'alveoli' that serves as a unit where physiologic wastes, such as carbon dioxide, be exchanged with oxygen. You see, oxygen is necessary for all functions of your body and surprisingly, most people can get by with only one lung instead of two, as long as their body is in good capacity.
